since so much stuff has, and is going to continue to do down, i figure i'd start a thread for all the moves in the offseason
big deals today were bruins signing Chara and Savard. yankeessuck'll be happy ;)
devils re-signed langenbrunner, but i'd rather have elias...i wonder what lou's gonna do.
jovanovski went to phoenix. i feel bad for him :p
Brian Pothier and Zdeno Chara gone for Ottawa >< Ottawa picked up Joe Corvo which I know nothing about but I looked up his stats on NHL.com and did pretty good for the LA Kings. Won't be as good as Chara but hope he can fit in with my Senators. Redden's also staying, damn Boston ><
Edmonton resigned Pisani and Roloson which is a load off for them.
I'm interested in where Jeremy Roenick goes. He says he was interested in going to a Canadian team. Seems like he would be good for Calgary to help their offense.
Jay McKee signed with St. Louis which will hurt Buffalo's defense.
So much stuff going on watching the sports channels.
And the Kings just signed Rob Blake

Wooo! No way I didn't even know the Bruins did that. I'm pumped now, and happy they are making moves to get good players.

noooooooooooooo i wanted the Rangers to pick up Chara. Boston is giving him 7.5 mil. a year
Elias staying put in NJ
John Davidson signed on to the Blues organization as President. I am happy for him, but will miss his announcing with the Rangers. :wah:
Man, the Avs board is going crazy. We lost near all of our big name players and they act like the whole team fell apart.
People need to slap some sense into them.

man, what a crazy free agency so far. chara/savard will be golden in bruins. huge boost to their topline. ottawa has gerber, so hopefully he can retain 20-40 games/season and do good.
pronger to leafs it seems.

:p i always disliked him as an announcer. not as much as sam rosen, though.

Huh? Where'd you get that info from?
And Elias did resign, I think it was a 7 year deal.

Elias inked a 7 year deal. i think it was 6 mil. each season but don't quote me on that one. i wonder what the devs are gonna do with Gomez now.
i think the Rangers will cut loose Sykora and resign Straka and Rucinsky. I like Sykora, but wouldn't be too upset with it.
Edit : nevermind, yeah Rangers resigned Straka. Now they better resign Rucinsky.

wow. 7 years, 42 mil. if they're right, this is a MAJOR relief for me.
i heard rumors that the devils were going to add havlat if elias was gonna stay...
edit: lalime with chicago. will he backup khabibulin, or what?

I've known since yesterday that Elias is staying with us. Also some more good news for ryan;) , Pronger went to the Ducks instead of the Rangers who were looking at him alot. Gomez, Gio, Hale, Martin, and White have all been resigned with the Devils and Langenbrunner of course.

just got back from work and was happy to hear what happenned.........
woo good news with Aaron Ward. Rangers need a physical defenseman. He is still pretty average, but a good pickup none the less. i am tired of watching the Rangers D show no physical game what so ever besides Kaspar.
Ruchin went to the Thrashers. I liked him, didn't really get a chance to show what he could do but we lost some good veteran leadership with him gone. the contract they gave him seems outrageous for a 35 year old who has battled the injury bug. not 100 percent sure what Atlanta was thinking with that one.
Rangers also snagged Cullen from the Canes a few days ago which maybe he can be a good 3rd line center.
Yzerman retired. :wah:
now if the rangers can pick up a goal scorer i will be happy.

well he lives right in Mass. so it would be convenient.
Boston is interested and Shanny is too so i think the deal is pretty much closed unless the Wings can hold onto him.

In a matter of a days Edmonton lost it's top D pairing. Wow.
So, are Daniel Tjarnqvist and Ladislav Smid supposed to make up for this? I'm not saying there poor D-Men but no pair could produce like 6-44. This is a very interesting so far and I'm looking forward to October but the Oilers aren't going to go as far as they did again without Kevin Lowe doing something major.

yup Poti now a fishstick. Ranger fans gave him a lot of shit that he didn't deserve.. he is just way too soft and didn't contribute all that much being an offensive defenseman...
but still Ranger fans made him a scapegoat which was pretty gay.:banghead:

well thank the fuck christ it is only a one year deal.
i love him, but he is 37 (i think). Picking up ONE veteran player helps the team, but its signing a buncha over the hillers that killed the past Rangers. he still can put the puck in the net and help the PP..also a good leader for the team. take some pressure off of the one man scoring machine. Either way it isn't a long term contract so for now i am happy about it.

Why did Detroit get rid of Shannahan, wtf are they gonna do now.. someone please help explain WTF THEY'RE GONNA DO
Ottawa Senators trade Martin Havlat and Bryan Smolinksi to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Tom Priessing, John Hennessy, Michal Barinka, and Chicago's 2008 second-round draft pick. The San Jose Sharks also got Mark Bell in this deal.
At first i was like WTF at this deal because Ottawa traded Havlat AND Smolinksi for mostly prospects. But, Preissing is a great defenseman but the rest of the deal is prospects so I'm not sure if I like this deal. This deal also frees up a lot of cap space for Ottawa, they better get a 2nd/3rd line center because now they need it. Havlat also signed a 3 year, $18 million deal with Chicago, Havlat is not worth $6 million ><
ryan41
07-10-2006, 11:39 AM
Chicago is waaaaaaaaaaaay overpaying for Havlat. he is awesome, but damn a lot of money. now he gets to play in Chicago..what the fuck Havlat being a Blackhawk is just weird. I wonder if he can help the organization get back on its feet again.

Brendan Shanahan left because he misses the old days? What, 4 years is too long to go without winning a Stanley Cup? Sounds like a spoiled brat.
If Shanahan (and Ben Wallace) obviously have no problems leaving the city for superficial reasons after all they've been through here, then why should we miss them?

With Pronger and Peca gone, all they have left is Pisani and Roloson...
:(
Well last year they traded for Samsonav, Roloson, and Spacek during the season. I'd think they will try to do something like that again, of course if they don't they do have a good future. Resigned Pisani Roloson Horcoff, got Lupul and that other Anaheim prospect from the Pronger trade, and a shit load of draft picks from them. I don't see them making the playoffs with their current roster though.

Leafs are looking much better this year with the additions of Peca, Raycroft, Kubina and Gill (a slight improvement from berg hah). Meanwhile ditching the bearded brontasaurus (allison), lindros, domi, belfour, berg (finally), khavanov.
If oneill plays like he did under maurice in carolina, young guns (steen wellwood) continue to improve and Raycroft bounces back to calder form, then we have a solid playoff bound team IMO.
There may be alot of "ifs" but far less gambles than last year. I think the season relies on Raycroft, we have solid D in front of him, if he performs then we'll be set.
I feel bad for edmonton, such a good cup run and now they loose half their squad. At least they kept Roloson, but they need to pick up some defence.

Ha, I used to idol that guy when I was in grade school. Had his official Leafs jersey, tonnes of posters of him and shit. That guy was the man back in the day. I had no idea he was even a free agent, as I thought he was still playing for L.A.
Well, he's still a good, solid goal keeper, so I'm kinda surprised no one's scooped him up yet.

Just so everyone knows, that's all the trades up to date. God damn, the Canucks did a lot of retooling this off season. Wow, Canucks aquired Luongo?! Wonder how much that set them back...

Boston, Toronto, Calgary & Chicago are the most improved teams. I'd say Ottawa and Edmonton are the most depleted from last season.

Not a problem. :p
Wow, I just realized the Leafs lost Domi... It's not going to be the same without him. Lindros isn't a big deal. He pretty much did fuck all in his tenure with the Leafs, same with Belfour.
They were great at one point, but their prime was a long time ago. There was a time a few years ago when the Leafs were a young man's team. I hope they can progress a little better next season.

Chicago? They've signed a backup goalie, a player in Russia and made one trade so far. They did get Havlat and Smolinksi but they lost prospects and Bell. In total, they've lost more players than they've acquired. And the New York Islanders have to be up there in the top 3 improved.
Also Carolina is losing a lot of their talent, Ward, Gerber, Recchi, Cullen and Weight are all gone. Ottawa did get worse but they're still better than most teams in the NHL.

Garth snow as GM + useless overpaid yashin, and the future of the isles isnt too bright.
Chicago definately overpaid for havlat, other than that no significant moves to warrant them most improved.
I want to see Fredrik Norrena play. Maybe Columbus will actually let him play.

We should get a pre-season thread going soon.
Anyways, the Wild are looking good this year. I am excited to see they spent some money on talent to go with Gaborik.

what did they do besides re-sign gaborik?
edit: they got parrish, carney and johnsson, three decent players. not sure if it's enough to make them a playoff team again, but we shall see

I'd like to take this opportunity to wish Petr Sykora a warm welcome to (rainy) Edmonton. He's a great addition to our already stellar offence.

I wouldn't count them out just yet...they've got a solid backend, need some steady goaltending. I'm not sure if they picked up any forwards, but defensively theyre looking sound.

the Oilers has Hemsky and Horcoff...the rest is negligable...I guess Lupul counts too.
Edmonton will be lucky to make the playoffs this year with the division their in.
