That's what happens when you lock your knees. Usually they go straight down though..lol

(Just wanted to point out it was probably not the pressure nor the heat)

Although it looked like it would be pretty damn hot in those uniforms they were wearing, especially during the day with the sun out and everything. :)

haha, the only time I saw someone faint from locking their knees was in boot camp, during a ceremony. My buddy ahead of my took a step forward, and I grabbed him and was like "dude, you ok?" he was like, "yeah, I'm fine"

about 5 seconds later, boom, he hit the ground.

And while we were getting a speech about how we better not be faking passing out, some kid in the company next to ours took a face first planter into the ground. The first Sergeant said "...he ain't faking"

I thought it was pretty funny.

It's possible he fainted from the heat, but, yeah, much more likely that it was from locking his knees. Learned this in ROTC where we were instructed on how to bend our knees slightly during long stands; just enough to keep circulation flowing yet still appear to be standing at full attention. Unfortunately, nothing can be done to stop the burning that your toes receive when the sun shines on them black shoes for an hour or more.

Yeah I was the executive officer (xo as they call it) of the NJROTC unit in my high school a couple years ago and I remember standing in front of the entire company during an annual inspection and saw 3 people just suddenly drop to the ground because of knee locking. They were first years too. What's funny is that they dropped after standing at parade rest for a while, but one of them fell on their back still at parade rest.

its when your knees are locked in the position that they aren't supposed to go...just stand up and try making your knees go back and you will understand

Or just standing still for a long time. How to prevent knees locking though, is wiggling your toes.
