[QUOTE] was a music tablature website from 1999 to 2006, offering free guitar, bass, and drum tablature, in addition to music reviews and instrument lessons. The site shut down in June, 2006 in response to claims made by the MPA about the supposed illegality of music tabs. All that remains of the former site is the forum.[QUOTE]

www.ultimate-guitar.com
owns all those sites.
Because people are greedy, if their books are not selling, then attack the main source. They also attacked www.mysongbook.com
Providing some tabs - even made by ear - of copyrighted music is illegal. In order to respect the law, downloads have been limited to the [Composition] and [Competition] files. We are going to make our best to find a solution to offer music content without infringing copyrights.

Agreed. Use ultimate-guitar. It has lots of tabs in text, but it also has lots of guitar pro and power tab files.

Very good point, not every single lyric site has direct permission from the artist to rewrite the lyrics for their website, so why the fuck isnt that shit getting targetted but tabs are?
Its a real shame that mxtabs went down, it was one of my 3 main tab sites.
www.ultimate-guitar.com
owns all those sites.
yep, UG is the one i use mainly now, another decent one is www.fretplay.com

Also soon to be made illegal in a country/state near you:
humming your favourite tune (violates copyright if done within earshot of someone that hasn't paid to hear it)
singing along with your favourite record (obviously violates copyright - who gave you permission to repeat the lyrics verbatim?)
playing someone elses music yourself on your own instrument (violates copyright in so many ways I can't list them all).
This is a joke, but don't laugh because the way things are going now, it could happen.

I use www.bassmasta.net for bass tabs, but I think they have a guitar section too.

Yeah, I liked MXtabs, but now I just use ultimate-guitar.. I think they were more worried about people getting the tabs, learning the songs, playing them with a band, and making money from it. All without permission from the band/company they are signed to. I still think it's all BS, but there's still plenty of tab sites around..Why just this one?
