I ordered a GeForce 6800 with 16x PCI-e. I just found out that my computer only has 1x. I bought the card for playing games like Oblivion. Will it be incompatible?

I think you looked at the specs on your PC and it said 1x PCI-E, meaning there is one slot. Not that it is 1x speed, which is meant to replace PCI, and if I recall correctly is a completely different socket than 16x. What model of PC do you have?

if you have pci-express, chances are that it's 16x. unless what you're saying is that your computer only has regular pci, in which case you're fucked (and you need a new computer)

PCI-E (video) and PCI (old school) slots are pretty different and VERY hard to mix up, he probably has PCI-E!

The only way you'd have more than one video PCI-E slot is if your board was SLi or XFire ready.

Err, Have fun with your new card.

A lot of SLI/Crossfire motherboards have 16x/1x or 8x/8x instead of true dual-carding. Of course, to know about this feature probably requires you know about solving this problem.

I have a PCI card (I bought my computer not too long ago but DELL is fucking homosexual in that they only include onboard GFX)

Anyways, you can play most any games well except for like, FEAR, BF2, Oblivion (no shot in hell) and Prey. Mobos only cost a hundred or so, so you might want to check out that possibility.

But that doesn't matter if I don't have the money for a new motherboard to use it with.

What motherboard do you have? You also probably should have just went a little bit extra and got a GeForce 7 series. Or waited a few months for DX10 and GeForce 8.
