View Full Version : Orchid
Anyone else listen to these?
Great band. I love the vocals, such an intense scream.
Any other screamo bands out there worth a listen?

Best band to call "emo" out there.
They're not emo at all. All the emos would cry after listening to Orchid as it would hurt their pathetic little eardrums. Emos listen to shit like Panic! At the Disco, Hawthorne Heights and wank stuff like that. Orchid are far better than that.

between your and Metallic's despcription Imma guess they are screamo then...
Edit: haha, direct hit!
"Considered by many to be one of the pioneers of the "screamo" sound, Orchid was first and foremost a hardcore band. Orchid combined a post-modern aesthetic with hardcore punk, releasing several now hard to find EPs and splits as well as three full-length records. Orchid's influences are assumed to be Canadian hardcore band Union of Uranus and One Eyed God Prophecy, but band members more often cite the German bands Systral and Carol."

From what I understand, there is emo which is much better than those bands. I haven't checked this 'better emo' out much, but if Fugazi is considered emo, they're one of those better bands.

Sure, but I don't follow it quite as extensively as black, death or thrash. On top of the common classics (Boris, Candlemass, Electric Wizard, Katatonia, etc) I like Corrupted, Fleshpress, Noothgrush, Visceral Evisceration (rofl what a name) and Wormphlegm.

better emo or rather the older definition of emo...what emo was in the 80's and early 90's (somewhat)...completely different genres however...one comes from hardcore (musical style) routes, the other has more melodic, poppy, three chords per song routes

Wormphlegm is a good band :).
I'm into every genre of metal apart from black metal. I've just never been able to get into black metal apart from Immortal, some Arcturus and Ulver, and a bit of Darkthrone and Burzum.
Though I tend to tolerate or like blackened metal like Behemoth, Dissection, Forgotten Tomb, Destroyer 666 and the likes.

Exactly.
Screamo... Meh, to be honest, I can see why some might like it, but it just bugs the ever-living shit out of me... Same with "hardcore" in general.
