Is this sticking for anyone else...
It keeps getting stuck as soon as he puts the pen on the pad...

What the hell is the pen suppose to do?

Didn't stick at all for me.

The pen basically recognizes what you write. What the guy did in the video was draw a circle with a "c" in the middle. The pen recognized that the guy wanted a calculater.

So the guy then draws a box with all ten numbers, 0-9 in it, and then draws plus, minus, multiply, divide, equal, decimal, etc. He draws them in random places in the box and in no particular order.

He then selects the numbers and signs he wants by poking them with his pen. The pen, somehow, recognizes the numbers and repeats audibly what number he's selected.

So he pokes 2 + 2 =...

And the pen says, "4."

The pen is some kind of a computer. This guy was just showing off the calculater function. Indeed, I wonder what else it can do?

screw you, n00b!!!

Just kidding, I couldn't resist. Anyways, I wonder if it has a motion sensor or some kind of hyper sensitive GPS, or maybe a stationary object it uses as a base? The idea of using the ball of a pen just like the ball in a mouse is really genius, I never thought of it!

The object he's writing on seems to be something else than regular paper.
I'd have to watch it again tho, but its to boring

i would have thought it would be that paper that has tiny dots embedded in it a bit like fancy car windscreens.

It uses the dots to tell itself where it is on the page.

how it does it though. fuck knows

^^^You my sir are correct...its special paper that you get with the pen that has tiny dots and sense what has been written and transfers it through the pen.

Yah, it's a toy from LeapFrog -- I read an article on it in WIRED a few months ago.

The paper is covered in a special dot matrix which the pen reads with a special reader attached to the tip -- so it always knows where it's at on the paper no matter where you write.

It can do all kinds of things that sound really interesting and fun for 6+ year-olds. For example, you can draw a working piano and then touch the keys with the tip of the pen to play songs.
