View Full Version : Fast Punching? Slow as hell, and not powerful.

Watching those "fast punches" made me laugh. First of all, those are short punches, giving the illusion of speed, while I myself can see them as slow. The angle of their elbow, length of punch, and carelessness, yields a power behind it of probably around 20 lbs. That is why it looks "fast" and that's why those guys can stand up for so long. Anyone else notice this?

Yeah, it didnt seem too special to me either. Im no expert on boxing, but those wimpy punches didnt look like they'd hurt a lot.

yeah those guys are only like 300 pounds psh.
i think when they say fast, theyre refering to how they just went at it, as opposed to normal boxing where they just block for half an hour and punch every once in a while.

Well I'm not referring to boxing either. I'm referring to actual fast fighting. Like Jeet Kune Do for instance. I train and study Jeet Kune Do, and my god is it ever fast.

This is Tommy Carruthers. My JKD instructor knows him personally, as they both trained under the same instructor.
For people who say there's not enough power, he's attacking vital points which would take someone out at the first hit (throat, eyes, muscle pack energy cells), and the other hits are to finish it off. Incapacitate someone in less than a second. More deadly than any one punch ever could be.
For those who say he's leaving himself open, JKD uses trapping, not blocking. And also, I think his opponent would become blinded after an onslaught of hits.
Thank you for reading my rant.

Don Frye hits like a truck, yall. We have all seen faster strikes, but those guys had lots of heat, so it was cool they traded like that on PRIDEs big stage. Tak sucks, but he is His Hawtness, so its ok.

if you truly want to understand trapping, you need some good wing chun, unfortunately...its extremely hard to find a genuine wing chun instructor!
