View Full Version : The Ring

Not too gory a movie and the story telling is dead on perfect. Distrubing images that burn into your mind so you are still envisioning them days after viewing the movie so as to give you chills at random moments.
Yes, the movie is good...in my opinion...it is damn good...first movie to make me jump in a long, long time...this is coming from a jaded bastard that grew up on a steady diet of slasher and shock films.
Go see it with friends and loved ones...go to the web site...splice the images together...plant a tape at someone's house...anticipate when they will stumble upon it (probably think it's porn)...watch it...then, WHAMMO!!!!...call them
say "SEVEN DAYS" in your freakiest female voice.
anyways...great movie...highly recommended for a good scare.

The Ring f0cking sucked.
A girl coming out of the TV and kill you?... can anyone say poltergeist? please....
Too much talking, quite predictable, kid doesn't listen to the mom, ex boyfriend.
Not enough gore... boring, and quite comical at sometimes.
oooo... very mysterious, a tape in the middle of nowhere.
Woods... can anyone say Blair Witch Project.
Sorry movie.
I dont get scared easy... and the ring was pretty comical.
Thank God i downloaded from the net, it would have been a waste of money and gas to actually go to the movies and watch it.

sorry to drudge up an old thread...but, I watched the Japanese movie which "The Ring" was adapted from...even less gore and almost no violence...but, the cinematography/sounds/schocks really dug its nails into my mind...I was completed freaked by it...highly recommended if you can get your hands on it if you enjoyed "The Ring"
now, to go watch Ringu 2 and Ringu 0....

*Laughs at gibridehome* That's purdy funny. Anyway, that movie was okay. It was kind of stupid, but I liked the plot and everything. It was really confusing at first though...Maybe I'm just slow... Haha. I'm really lost...what are all these buttons for?? Lol.
I thought it was a great movie... Pretty freaky at some points and kept you suspensful through out it. However, I thought the character of the husband could be expressed better during some scenes (not enough of his emotions shown didn't get to know him well enough). Generally, it was good though... And the thing about the girl coming out of the screen: This is called a fictional movie, it's not real life buddy.
Except for a dumb bunch of kids that kept laughing every damn second ;p
Kanism
02-23-2003, 04:56 PM
some people laugh or poke fun to hide their insecurities...so, those kids were laughing to hide the fact that they were scared out of their minds...
I know that one of my friends and I jumped out of our seats at the scene where the centipede pops out of the files...I don't know why, it just did
I will not be looking in any oval mirrors!!!! ;)
great storytelling...goes to show you can scare the bejeezus outta someone without having to resort to buckets of blood and guts

That movie wasn't as scary as I thought. All my friends say it was the scariest movie they ever saw. I just got scary thoughts about it after.

the images get burned into your mind...they did mine and I had trouble falling asleep that night...weird thing is that the friend whom I was visiting in California when we watched it has a well looking thing in her front yard...talk about your unintentional freak outs.
it's scary because if you let the story take over, you get drawn into it, and almost experience it as well...ahhhh...for the days of old....bleh...who am I kidding...days of old for me was just a coupla years ago :D

I saw the origional Japanese version about 2 years ago, untill that time my horror fortey leaned towards Slasher movies (like Halloween, Nightmare, Friday 13th, Scream and so on), I saw this film late at night thinking that my knowledge of "Scary Movies" would tollerate what was in store for me, Oh dear lord I was wrong, this film scared 7 kinds of hell out of me, It was phsycological, mystical, every thing Blair Which should have been and wanted to be (this came out way before Blair Whitch had been thought of). Needless to say I didnt watch TV for a while.
True Story: My arse-hole of a best friend called me exactaly after the film finished, scared? you bet I was:p

I just rented the ring last night, and didn't get a chance to see it yet. I hope I will be able to go to sleep tonight after watching it. I'm a pretty big scardy cat when it comes to scary movies. I still sleep with the light on in the closet , when my boyfriend isn't home. :(

OMG......OMG......OMG!!!! That movie scared the shit out of me!!! I watched it right before I went to bed, and I couldn't fall asleep, for like an hour and a half I tossed and turned. Every little noise would wake me up. I can't believe how scary it was. :(

I watched this movie again with some of my friends saturday at a sleepover...all the girls were on the bed screamin' their hearts out while I was sitting on the couch with Adam, who was the only guy there, and we were cracking up at them...it was pretty hilarious.
When the horse "jumps" off the boat, me and adam were like "oh! this is the best part!" and all the other girls were like "ewwwwwww you guys are so mean!! that's really sad...poor horsey"
And then they screamed when the TV turned on in the beginning...tsk tsk..

yes!!! The Ring is hellagood and scary...and all you people that say you weren't scared by it are LIARS!!!!...
panda, I feel your pain...I have a TV in my room, so I basically slept with my bed lamp on after one of my viewings of it...chicken? mebbe...scared? you betcha!
for those of you that really liked the movie, I highly recommend getting a copy of Ringu (stateside release is soon) and spending a bit of time reading sub-titles...Ringu freaked me way more than The Ring could've possibly tried to scare me.
speaking of which...I recently read that at the indy film festival in Austin, there was a screening of some Japanese horror movie called, "The Eye"...supposed to be a freakishly good movie that has been picked up by Tom Cruise's production company for another re-hash...dunno...may have a similar impact as "The Ring"

Ive heard about "The Eye", it was released over here and is now on dvd, It's kinda like "The 6th Sence" but a hell of alot more scary, basic stroyline (as far as I know, I havent seen it YET) is this woman, who was blind since birth, goes to have an operation to see afterward she begins seeing dead people...
I probably havent sold it enuff, I have heard that its hella scary, go and see it, you might like it.

we can't in the states...bunch of snooty fucks somewhere won't let us see really good films in wide release...it's almost like we have to use secret code and diagrams to catch any worthwhile foreign flicks...meanwhile, we are buried with shit stain films starring a fucktard ensemble that is even worth the 30 seconds of TV time wasted to hype it....blech, I'm buying a multi-region dvd player and shopping over seas!

I was really expecting a lot scarier with all the comercials (yep they get you every time), it had its highs and it really had its lowes... the movie just draged most of the time. I did enjoy the twist near the end though, thats just something you don't see anymore.

It was kind of like Hitchcock meets horror. There was plenty of Gotta Beat the Clock, and Find Out What is Going On, even Sordid History. Of course no one compares to Alfred Hitchcock. He was definetly a master.

I use to watch Alfred all the time, then it was The Twilight Zone, then it was Tales from the Crypt. I love the Crypt Keeper's laugh.
