Ok. SO how come i have to go to detention because i didnt want to say the pledge of alegence? I dont think i have to say the pledge of alegence EVERY SINGLE MORNING since the first grade. Atleast i stand up when everyone else does. I dont see how forcing someone to say the pledge every morning helps fight the wars going on, and the people dieng. Why not take the 30 seconds wasted doing that, and doing constructive, like learning about the terrorists, so it wont hapen again?
For the record, im not goin to the detention. I have the right not to say the pledge of alegence, and i have the right not to go to detention.

I HIGHLY doubt you are going to detention for not saying the pledge if you are standing since many many people in my school didnt say it since they were exhausted from staying up the night before including myself. You are full of shit, plain and simple.

Make sure you know the exact reason for detention. Most likely they will say some bs.
If they give you detention for not saying it, and after telling them your case. if they still give the detention just do something.
I think everyone shuold say it, but they dont techinically have to.

OK, im full of shit.
Im sure you would get a detention also if your teacher was highly patriotic, and if he served in the military, and was in a war. I dont know wich war it was. It was one of those small wars.
The teacher asked me to say the pledge. I said why? Then he said do you want a detention? then i said, Not really, but why should i have to say the pledge? Then he walked to his desk, and came back with a detention slip. Maybe it was for not listining, but i know im not full of shit.

I usually would say the pledge.....but one day I had a nasty sore throat from pollen and I was tired so I stood up and didn't say the pledge, my teacher said I should really say the pledge or i'd look like a terrorist and I told him my throat hurt really bad, he then proceeded to use his laser vision on me whilst his serpents of death came forth from his bowels to gnaw off my non-patriotic flesh........actually, he just gave me a cough drop :)

I dont see how forcing someone to say the pledge every morning helps fight the wars going on, and the people dieng. The pledge of allegiance has absolutely nothing to do with current wars.
Why not take the 30 seconds wasted doing that, and doing constructive, like learning about the terrorists, so it wont hapen again? Despite what liberals may say, "being educated" about something has no impact on whether or not it will happen to you. About the only thing that "being educated" about will help you with regarding your health is drug awareness. Being "educated" or "aware" about rape wont keep it from happening. Being "aware" that Al Queda hates us wont keep them from doing something. The extent of what your "education" about terrorism can do to prevent it is to vote republican when you turn 18.
I have the right not to say the pledge of alegence, and i have the right not to go to detention. Actually no, you dont have the right to not go to detention.
I dont know wich war it was. It was one of those small wars. Sounds like you are a dipshit who should go to detention anyway.
Maybe it was for not listining, but i know im not full of shit. No, you are just immature.
but im not really gona go to detention. Have fun. You will only make problems worse for yourself.
Thank god theres only a little over a month left of school for me, then im out. Then you can work for $10 an hour and be free! Or you can go to college and realise that if you pull immature shit, you get kicked out. Yay!

Shade, you wish you had a remote control so you could control our lives right?
hey, i know what you mean. it didn't happen to me, but the kid that stood behind me. he got up, threw his hand on his heart and just leaned against the desk. then when it was over, teacher came over and said, "8 of our troops died this week for you"
well he didn't say much and just sat down again. he didn't get a detention, but in your case i'm not surprised.
just fight it, talk to your dean or something. in illinois you have the right not to say it, but you must participate by standing up and putting your hand on your heart. guess my teacher didn't know that.

i'm not sure it's a smart idea just to not show up, you may be in the right, but that will just get you in more trouble,
i didn't think you could be given a detention for not saying the pledge, i did for the first few weeks after 9/11, but after a while the words lost meaning, besides, it doesn't make you a good or bad american based on whether or not you say these words....so i usually just stood up at least, and on the days i didn't, i was asleep...
but yeah, you can fight the detention but be smart about it, you'll probably have to get your parents to talk to the principal on this one, if your school is anything like mine was, they don't care what kids have to say

Back when I was in high school (2 years ago) nobody had to say the pledge, or even stand up or pay remote attention to it. There were times where the entire class would just stay sitting down reading a book while the pledge was read. Even during and after the shock of 9/11, you had the right to not participate if you didn't want to. And no, they still don't have to say it, my sister is still in the school.

I believe shade wishes he had a smart stick. With this stick he could smack you in the back of the head, removing the ignorance of adolescence from your heads.
God if detentions such bullshit and you don't wanna go, don't get it asshole.
Ohh man. If you wanna get in more trouble don't go to detention. See what good it does you. Continue digging yourself a hole and your later life will reflect it. Colleges do not want fuck ups. Where I'm from you skip a detention and get a saturday. You skip a saturday you get suspended. So if you wanna skip detentions and go for suspensions, I promise you you won't end up in a respectable college. Leaving highschool with A's and B's is... well average and in the U.S. of A., if you wanna strive for what everyone else is, then continue to rebel into conformity.

More than that, you are simply full of bullshit. You absolutely did not get detention for simply not saying the pledge. You did something else and you damn well fucking know it. That or your entire story is BS.

Teachers are NOT allowed to send you to detention for not saying the pledge. They can be upset with you and yell at you, but that's about it. If a teacher really did give you a detention slip for simply not saying the pledge, you have every right to rip it up in his/her face and they can't do anything about it.

What makes you so sure, i spent my last year of HS not going to detentions and i left with A's and B's, i didn't want to be a rebel i just didn't go because i couldn't be arsed. At most schools in the US if you do not go to a detention that is assigned to you it accumulates. Eventually you are suspended or expelled. Its hard to get A's and B's if you are expelled.
Shade, you wish you had a remote control so you could control our lives right? I could care less what people do. I am just letting him know that he is not going to get the response he thinks he will.
in illinois you have the right not to say it, but you must participate by standing up and putting your hand on your heart. guess my teacher didn't know that. It sounds to me like they did or they would have done more than merely attempt to persuade.
Im NOT going to detention, and when my teacher finds out, he will probaly give me another one, and if he does, then ill go to the office. Oooh big and tough.
I believe shade wishes he had a smart stick. With this stick he could smack you in the back of the head, removing the ignorance of adolescence from your heads. Yup. But it doesnt work on liberals either.
Alphabeto, in all seriousness, I am just trying to give you advice as someone who has been down that road. Not about the pledge specifically, but about equally "stupid" rules. Stupid based on our relative perspectives. I dont like getting hassled. But in some situations it is better to tolerate a small amount of hassle and let it stay at that, than to protest it in an immature fashion and simply escalate things.
Also, you can say the pledge for your own reasons. Saying the pledge is not saying "I love George Bush and want to re-elect him in November. I love 'war for oil' and being a 'bastard conservative'." You could be saying the pledge for the Union freeing the slaves or for the US being a catalyst to the end of WW2 or for the framers of the constitution starting a pretty successful experiment.

A's and B's is... well average and in the U.S. of A.
5 A's, 2 A*s (English Lang. & Lit., where i also achieved the best coursework grade in our School) 2 B's...one of which was Relgious studies, being an atheist and going to a R.C school doesn't mix too well. That is not average, either your tests are whole lot easier than our GCSE's or you hand out a's like no one's business. :D
*Oh and we leave high school at 16, none of that senior lark you have, then we do Advanced levels at college which are the grades used for Uni's*

God you guys are so stupid. You dont even belive me on getting a detention. Sure maybe i got a detention for not saying the pledge, or perhaps for not listing to the teacher when he told me to say it, it doesnt matter. This forum is full of stupid kids, and anoying teens, and people who cant belive a simple story.
My short stay here wasnt that great. Glad im leaving.

*Oh and we leave high school at 16, none of that senior lark you have, then we do Advanced levels at college which are the grades used for Uni's* In our senior class (and below) we have the opportunity to take advanced placement classes that give us college credit. College and University are interchangeable words in the US.
That is not average, either your tests are whole lot easier than our GCSE's or you hand out a's like no one's business. Depends on the school. I am probably better educated at my current stage (entering 4th year of college) than 80-90%+ of Europe. I always scored in the 95-99th percentiles of various tests, yet I slack in school and just always have a B average because I like to enjoy my time. In fact, one of my friends is from Norway, where college is "free." He and his parents pay $20,000 per year to go to my above average typical state University (www.unt.edu) because even this typical university prepares him better for the business world, specifically information systems, than any school in Norway that he could attend for "free."
Unfortunately, the statistics of education in the United States are dragged down by inner city outlier schools that suffer from lack of motivation, support, and corruption. If you were however to come up with a statistic that only includes typical suburban schools in the US, we wouldnt be ranked what we currently are which is something like 13th in the world.
Oh, and I have never been in a private school. I have been publicly educated the whole way - in a good middle class area where parents support their children and promote a good work ethic which reflects in the atmosphere of the school.
