i'm just curious of what everyonbe thinks of the "gender selection" practice. i think it's disgusting-if you want to play god look in a video game store for something. this is tampering with human lives.
i don't know which is worse-
1.) the "scientific" practices which are tested to work
or
2.) the "internet" practices which promise money back if it doesn't work, keeping the money half the time without actually doing anything by playing the odds.

everyone's case for it is that it will help rid the world of harmful afflictions and disabilities. -fine and dandy.

then, people are going to start making people faster and smarter and tampering with nature which is just morrally unacceptable.

i don't mind in-utero cures for cancer and such, but things like gender selection are creepy. it creates a whole different person

Why do I see this turning into another abortion thread?

Are they talking about genetically manipulating/not killing the current fetus? If so it sounds more like a god playing thread than an abortion thread.

If so, it sounds interesting, but not something I would do. I think it would be preferable in places like China where gender change would be done instead of many abortions. I would have to learn more about it before deciding if I think it should be illegal in the US. As it stands, it seems like something that should be legal, but is not something I would do personally - like drugs.

in some contries, male children are preffered. if this tecnology is readily available those countries will not only have to deal with overpopulation, STD's, martial law, ect., but also that males strongly outnumber females. (that might help fight the overpopulation...but still).
also, steve, this thread had no references to abortion until your contribution.

I think it would be a really good idea. This would make both liberals AND conservatives happy... at the same time.

Conservatives would be happy due to the decreased number of abortions (as stated by shade) and liberals would be happy because they'd get to fuck with something else. Just kidding but I believe this would also reduce the number of animals used in testing... in some odd way shape or form.

I had it going in my brain, I seriously did. But then my train of though fell out of my ear.

Shade said there would be a decrease in the number of abortions in China. I don't see how it will decrease them in the United States.

More men than women would help overpopulation and the option to change the sex would be preferable in my opinion to aborting millions of baby girls.

Shade said there would be a decrease in the number of abortions in China. I don't see how it will decrease them in the United States. Eh, it would slightly in the US. I doubt that there are very many people who have abortions due to a female child though. But Im sure they do exist.

Hey, im all for fucking with nature. I want my own set of angel wings... man that would be cool. Also to be super intelligent and be able to receive and transmit at superhigh frequencies analog and digital streams, could talk on the phone without a headset. Could broadcast video by speaking. many way better things i cant thing of right now because i don't have that damn superintelligent brain because hippies won't let scientists work on developing the super brain.

subnote:this post is entirely a joke not to be taken seriously.
subnote 2:well, except for the wings part

hmmm.. I just happen to think that when you screw with mother nature that she screws with you right back. It is not natural, in fact.. if we could produce one gender over another wouldn't that stand to reason that we could than indeed make a more intelligent human, without evolution? Wouldn't that cause a profound effect on natural selection? If this path happens than wouldn't all of us be more or less the weakest of the human evolutionary chain? Genetically radicated humans.. is that really the way to go? Why can't we just be genetically pre-dispositioned for what we are meant to be without having to throw our hands in it. Besides, let's be honest, do we really TOTALLY know what we are doing? What other genetic horrors could we be "programming" by doing this sort of thing? I personally think this is a poor idea. I think we should let nature dictate these decisions instead of us trying to control what I am not really sure we have a firm handle on?

This is just another case of "Just because we know how to do it doesn't automatically mean we should.
