I urge you to check out my friends band. I've known these guys for years. They've had a melodic death metal band since 1997. Haven't done anything huge over the years. Released a couple albums, but it's all basement recording type stuff. They've had a lot of interest worldwide, and some of thier fans include members of soilwork and in flames. Unfortunately, everytime they get something in the works, there's some unknown force preventing them from succeeding (like when their drummer split [rejoined as a guitarist] and just recently their vocalist parted ways). They have some new songs recorded, but no vocal tracks yet until they find a new singer.
Either way, if you're a fan of melodic death, you might like them. They're from Massachusetts, and like I said, been doing this for a while. They're one of my favorite bands of the genre, and really cool guys to hang out with. Seems as though the band members have an unlimitted number of side projects, but it's because they've taken so many long breaks in the band that they have nothing better to do.
Check them out at:

Let me, or them know what you think.

Lame In Flames worshipping, which is never a good thing.
Not my kind of thing, but expect mallcore kiddies to lap this shit up.

They're ok, I guess or at least better than me. Not that that means much. :\
To be honest they bored the fuck out of me.

awesome music, but screaming vocals usually dont appeal to me. vocals could be worse, though.

Not the best, not the worst, they aren't my taste though.

wow they were actually pretty damn good. id call em "metalcore" but there are too many ways to categorize bands nowadays. anyways, liked it a lot. loved the breakdown in "Alone" (though I didnt listen to all of it or the other song) Wh is it that all metal bands come out of Mass.?

Not all bands come from here. We do have a pretty good metal scene though. Most of which is hardcore these days (sadly). One of our highlights is the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival, held once a year, bands from all over the world come and play. It's 3 days of awesomeness haha. Some of Massachusetts more notable bands are Shadows Fall, Killswitch Engage, and Unearth. Mike Rudberg (drummer for unearth before the guy from the Red Cord replaced him...long story behind that) lives down the street from me. I thought it was pretty cool when the headbangers ball tour featured those 3 bands paired with Lamb Of God. I'm not the biggest LoG fan, but it was cool having 3 out of the 4 bands be from Mass.
Anyway, to those who it "bored", take into consideration that it was recorded in "the dungeon" (aka the guitarists basement) so the quality doesn't do the music justice. They do a killer live performance though.
Here are a couple reviews of their albums (old and new)

The metal observer To Sytherae.. review. (http://www.metal-observer.com/articles.php?lid=1&sid=6&id=3995l)
Some notable fans of LIV:
Jesper from In Flames (wearing their t-shirt on stage at a worcester show)
Peter from In Flames (Wearing their t-shirt in an interview at the wacken open tour)
Carlos Del Olmo - Former soilwork keyboardist (out of the blue sent Life In Vain a Life In Vain logo he made, which they still use today)
I had pictures of the in flames members wearing the shirts, but my computers all got stolen, so the pictures are long gone. Maybe my buddy has them on his computer, who knows.
EDIT: my buddy had the photos in an old backup.

Recording quality has nothing to do with how boring it sounds. To me, the recording sounded quite good. Sorcier Des Glaces has shitty recording quality, yet they remain one of my favorite BM acts coming out of Canada.
I wouldn't mind seeing them live though; some bands have to be experienced that way before you can appreciate them to a certain extent.

Well quality came into play a little. They have a 3 guitar lineup, but you really can't tell in the recordings. I can't say much about the new recordings they're doing, as they're "confidential" right now, haha, but I will say that they're a lot different from the old stuff, and very kick ass.

Carcass - Heartwork
Soilwork - Predator's Portrait
In Flames - Clayman
If you like those albums you'll like this band. Not bad, good guitar work but sounds pretty generic to my ears.

I like the whispering vocals, Thatd be interesting to see em laid down onto some brutal technical instrumental. Id like to see it a bit faster too. A little "cheesy" at the slow pace of Alone for me.
