Inspired by the best keyboard player thread. Bands like Fall Out Boy are unacceptable...

My vote goes to Neil Peart simply because I feel his technique and styles are amazing, and he has a great sound.

Edit: Fuck, I wasn't thinking and spelled Neil wrong in the poll, my bad

There's so many...Neil Peart, Mike Giles, Tom Brechtlein (who I actually was lucky enough to jam with), Joe Morello, Vinnie Colaiuta, just to name a few.

Haha Lars Ulrich

I went with Peart, though you really should have put drummers like Virgil Donati and Mike Mangini on there.

Neil Peart is awesome and so is Keith Moon but I went with Bonham simply because he kicks ass. I also really like Mitch Mitchell (Drummer for Jimi Hendrix Experience)

Well, my fav three drummers are Danny Carey, Martin Lopez (ex Opeth, ex Amon Amarth) and Neil Peart.

So from that list Danny Carey - he's a drumming god.

Not a bad list at all, and I commend you for acknowledging Stewart Copeland.

Chad Smith and Nicko are decent drummers, but probably shouldn't be on this poll. Ulrich is pretty bland.

I would like to have seen Bill Bruford on the list, but nevermind. You haven't labelled this as a rock/metal drumming thread, but I'll assume that's what you mean - it would be too complicated if it included jazz as well.

I suppose I lied. I do consider Peart to be the best drummer, but I'm not a big fan of Rush. I voted for Moon because not only is he awesome, but The Who are a great band.

Niel Peart..and it's not even close. How the hell is Moon even in this thing? Theres no way he's as technically good as Peart..and Peart does sooo many different things, things that Moon could never do.

And I'd also like to give props to Gene Hoglan and Martin Lopez.

Chad Smith and Ulrich shouldnt even be on this list.

FUCK YAH MAN. DMB for like.. CArter RULES!

But one of my fav's is TRAVIS BARKER! Defintaly.
He won fastest drummer, multiple years in a row.
fatest does NOT equal best but he is still the best, anyone who hears him knows.

He's not faster then any black metal drummer or power metal.

I've heard him, and he's good, but not the best, not even in the top 20.

Truth.

Travis Barker is "amazing" by that genre of music's standards.

Fastest drummer? Watch Michael Mangini, world's fastest one-handed roll right there. You saying he "won fastest drummer multiple years in a row" without any reference or citation totally proves that all that is is your opinion, and far from fact.

Do you think all these 'death metal' drummers got off the crack long enough to show up and compete? nooo.

Im looking for link now, he won it 4 outta 6 years.

I dont care how many "awards" he won, I give him a lot of credit, he's very good, but he's no where near as fast as some drummers you never knew existed....

The music is BUILT for very fast drummers, and they are quite faster then Travis Barker...trust us.

Anyone heard of Adrian Erlandsson?

Jesus, that guy can keep some good double bass.

I know man. My friend from college, is right into that kinda music.
Some of it so fast it doesn't even seem real. Like thrashin drummin..

or whats he call it.. shit. I ferget now, some 'kind' of drumming. Thats fast beyond belief.

It's defintaly not all about speed as most of you know.

And I never said he was one of the best, I said he deserves recognition for being above average and getting better over the years, he has made substantial progress. And for the type of rock he drums to, he is definitely one of the better. He may not be the best compared to all drummers, but he is getting there for rock, that's for sure.

Don't take slipknot out on joey jordison. Alot of people like you refuse to accept that joey is good because they dislike slipknot.

I'm not taking Slipknot out on Joey Jordison. I just think he's a very average drummer and any more recognition than what is currently given is unwarranted. The same applies to Travis Barker. I don't, however, feel either are bad.

As a drummer overall, hes ok, nothing great, but definetly better than a good deal of other drummers out there today, especially in the punk-pop genre.

But as temp said, hes very bland, ive watched his drum solo vids and i wasnt impressed by any of them, it just seems really... boring.

Very much agreed. Harrison is a cool drummer - I've heard that he holds some good drum clinics too.

Another awesome drummer is Tomas Haake of Meshuggah. He's probably one of the most talented drummers I've ever heard.

Too bad he left the band, he was the main reason why i listened to TMV.

Too hard to decide, i admire them all.

Can't forget Bill Cobham though. His work with The Mahavishnu Orchestra was insane.

I saw Rush live, Neil Pearts drum solo with his fucking glockenspeil is enough to make Helen Keller cry tears of joy.

My vote goes to David Lombardo. Lars Ulrich is a great drummer (when he's IN PRACTICE), but I don't neccessarily think that he deserves categorization as one of the greatest drummers ever. Still, he's actually kind of gotten rather underrated now. Sure, he's been having major problems lately, but that doesn't take away from how good his pre-St. Anger drumwork was.

Are you shitting me? You think he had had good drumming on Load, Reload, the Black Album? You must be crazy

The only album where his drumming was slightly above par was ...And Justice For All, other than that, hes nothing but a mediocre metal drummer.

He is a good drummer, but not close to some of the best.
