Does anyone remember this game? The best FPS ever if you ask me...
Here's some legendary footage to jog your memory...

Can you believe that the TRIBES franchise is caught in copyright limbo, and due to such we may never ever see another TRIBES game? When I first heard that, I threw a fit. The gaming community needs to get this series back on track.

Does anyone still play that anymore? I used to play it all the time and loved it. Nothing brings more joy, than killing someone out of the air with a disc launcher.

I have all 3 TRIBES games installed on my computer still :) But the only one I play actively is TRIBES: Vengeance (3)
TRIBES 1 and 2 are totally free games now, and T:V (or T3) is like $10-$20 new retail.

Well, Tribes 1 is.
Tribes 2 is "technically" free. But good luck finding a key code anywhere. You'd be better off buying a copy somewhere.
Tribes: Vengeance is about as fun as masturbating with sandpaper lubed with lemon juice with a bad case of genital warts. I was kind enough to warn the development team a good four months before the game was released that my precognitive abilities allowed me to see that the game would be a total flop unless they did something.
They didn't listen.

Quake 3? Sure. Mediocrity at it's best.
If you're going down that path, Unreal Tournament was far better. Everything from the gameplay to the sound was exceptional.
As for Tribes, some people just never liked it. Than again, some of those same people thought Halo was the best thing ever. I guess when a game actually requires some thought, tactics, and skill, it becomes a black sheep.

Well said. Hard fps's never seem to make it big. Games like Halo require skill, but not on the level of a game like Unreal Tournament. UT is a noobs worst nightmare. You either play UT as a noob with the determination to get better, or you log in and let the competition roll you like you weren't even there and never play it again.
I think most people choose the later, which is cool since real life should consume the most of your time. Only a few people make a living out of a playing an fps. So being really good at em doesn't mean much unless you are sponsored and being shipped out to contests.

Pff, right when I graduated from highschool, I put off going to college. I had a ridiculous amount of time on my hands. I played UT all the time, as well as Tribes 2. I played Q3 for awhile, but after learning the ropes, the game became too much of a roll of the dice for me.
I eventually became insanely good at Unreal Tournament's Instagib mode. If you've ever played it before, and you felt someone was just uncannily accurate, they MUST be cheating, but they still didn't hit every time. That was me. I don't know how many times I was accused of cheating. After awhile, the aiming just became natural.
---------
As for Tribes 2. I got the game, but only played it a few times. I was still playing UT every waking hour. If I wasn't sleeping or working, I was playing Unreal. Than one day, I decided to plug start Tribes 2 up again. After it patched, I logged onto a server and started playing, T2 became my new addiction. I played on the mousemod server avidly. It was a bit different from BASE T2, the cloak pack didn't drain much energy, so you could keep it on as long as you didn't use your jets. The shield was the same way. Laser headshots killed lights and heavies in one hit. Beacons could be used as boosters. Other than that, the everything else was the same. And the custom maps the server had is what I really loved. The sense of scale was amazing.
I played all the time. I played every possible position, than found more. The possibilities were nearly infinite. I sniped, I cloaked, I capped, I went heavy defense, heavy offense, medium offense, turret farmed, bomber hunting, tank hunting, shriking, base raping, mid field, tanking, bombing, havoc piloting, tail gunning. I became a god on the server. My name was recognized by all.
I ended up joining a small time clan that played on the server regularly. Players wanted to join our team all the time. We even were being considered as an official clan of the server with admin rights.
Then, after about two years, I noticed something. I couldn't believe I had never seen it before. The server was ridiculously unbalanced. Not just the mod, the teams were stacked regularly. I'd see the same team win consistantly on the server with no contest against them. This was just wrong, and had to be stopped. I started switching to the team that was doing bad and helping them. My score and killcount suffered, but sometimes I could single handedly turn the game around. I encouraged my clan mates to do the same, but they were more interested in winning than playing a fun, and fair game. I ended up leaving my clan because of it. I decided to point out the obvious blemish to the admins, but the few that cared, rarely (if ever) did anything. I was able to get a few players to side with me, but they too ended up becoming disgusted by the lack of sportsmanship with the regular players on the server. We ended up leaving the server, and moving to houston vehicles (later became miami vehicles).
With all of the big players always stacking the teams, newer players less and less often played on the mousemod server. The player count went from a regular 40 to only 10-12 on at a time. Than the last few trickled out. The mousemod server was dead.

I CAN agree with that. Quake one was the best in the series. The single player rocked. And the multiplayer completely revolutionized online gaming.

XD at Secret Service.
The only thing I don't like about Quake is acquiring a good weapon. I get fragged about three times before I can pick up a rocket launcher/railgun/other good weapon; more if there's one person completely dominating. But being a newb is my fault for not playing Q3 when it came out. After playing Q4, it just doesn't live up to the Quake name. However, I found that I could kill WAY more people in 4 with the saw than I could in 3, which is super fun to do (especially when people start copying you and get super fragged).
Also, I'm kicking myself for not playing Tribes. From that video it looks like a totally kickass game.

Then you must not of delved into any of the Q3 mods. Freeze tag, ultimate, and Unlagged to name a few. Unlagged being the equivalent of Instagib, except that aiming wasn't so lead-based and ping wouldn't matter one bit below 200.
I liked Q3's rail much much more than UT's. I never played the actual Q3 game because if I wanted to do that then UT was better for it. But the mods were amazing.

ZOMG HALO 2 IS TEH BESTEST!!!@!@!@!!132131!!!
i think quake 2 is the best. i used to play ctf day n night.
also if any of you guys have half life, download the mod called The Specialists. its just crazy. 30+ guns, kung fu, katanas, sweet levels, fast paced, you can dive and wall flip and you can play in thirdperson. the game also has a very large modding community. they have tons of gun model replacements and player models and they both are very easy to install. And for you Role Players, they have a role play mod that is awesome. PM me for more details

Halo 2/Rainbow Six 3(On-line) were probably the most addicting.
The best I have played however was probably Perfect Dark or Goldeneye. Half-life was good too.

HALO 1/2, Counter Strike ( I hate source for some reason), UT series, Rainbow 6, Half Life 2.
The one I spent most time on would have to be CS, I was a God among the CS GODS in that game, I spent like 6 months playing it non stop, my high school times were ridiculously easy so I had a lot of time in my hands.

I remember I played tribes about two years ago... one of my friends brought it over, so i installed it, started playing it. I spawned walked outside of my base, jumped, and got sniped to living hell. If i stepped outside of my base for longer than 2 seconds i would get raped. Too many people were insanely good at that game, and I didn't want to give up all my time to become one.

Snipers? Good? The good players usually don't bother sniping. And the good players NEVER go sniping offensively, that's just asking to get slaughtered. A good sniper will use his sniping abilities to actually help his team instead of padding his score.
Now if you, say... were flying somewhere midfield, and got blasted in the face, mid air, with a disc, and got nailed again before hitting the ground. Then you're dealing with a good player.
Personally, I prefer a game that involves time and practice to become good at it. Unreal Tournament did that fairly well, but you still end up hitting a peak. I feel like I'm always getting better in Tribes no matter how much I play it.
Think of it this way, in Tribes, you have to learn to aim, like in every first person shooter. But you also have to learn to move. Energy management is important, as well as preserving your momentum. Learning to change direction without losing too much speed. Use the hills and valleys to your advantage. You have to keep both the opponent, and the environment in mind at all times.

This is exactly what made TRIBES the best FPS experience I've ever had. Did any of you guys even watch the video I posted in the start of the thread? I mean, TRIBES takes tremendous skill... Players move faster than the projectiles from weapons do, and your firing trajectory is heavily influenced by the direction of movement you're character is currently under. Your character always has to be moving, arially, or skiing on terrain at high speed, or you're toast.
When you fire a shot in TRIBES, this is what goes through a good players brain (at lightning speed)
1-Where am I?
2-Where is my enemy?
3-How's my jumpjet energy doing?
4-How fast am I moving, and in what direction?
5-How fast is my target moving, and in what direction?
6-How long will it take my weapon of choice to reach my targets distance?
7-Where is my enemy going to be by the time my shot gets over there?
8-How can I close (or) keep the distance from my enemy, without making myself vulnerable by losing momentum, or blindly rocketing off the map?
9-FIRE!!!
10-Which Taunt macro should I use?
I've always loved the quickvoices in all the TRIBES games, for those of you who remember them; do you think they made all the voices sound like they were 70's pornstars on purpose?

Goldeneye...
No doubt, Tomorrow Never Dies and Goldeneye were the best FPS's EVER. James Bond games owned.
That is until Agent Under Fire screwed them up...The Q-hook think would hook to ANYTHING, and all you had to do was fly around like spiderman...And Everything or Nothing didnt help the multiplayer, though the single player wasnt bad.

I installed tribes today and started playing it again, and well... I get owned so badly, but it's fun. I'm so bad at changing directions. I'm completely used to CS 1.6 physics where you can change direction and keep your momentum while jumping.
Speaking of Halo 2. It's a great game for Newbies. I don't mean that in a deragatory way. It just caters well to new players getting into FPS games or video games in general.
