View Full Version : Spare PC Ideas?

So my g/f's Brother was ditching his old PC and I snagged the thing. Its not too bad, a Dell Dimension 2400. Its specs are weak and not worthy anything created in the last few years. Im heading back to college at the end of the week and want to find something to do with this damn thing before I go back so it doesnt just rot in my room here at home.

Ideas?

Get a few more "donated" PCs and start an internet cafe in your house somewhere, charge people money for every 15 minutes they use it. All you would have to do is get a router for the connection and you'd be good to go.

Agreed - that's actually a pretty good idea. Wouldn't mind trying it myself.

If you have alot of movies and music and stuff backed up on your computer, use it as some kind of file server. I always thought it would be cool to take a Mac computer with the Apple remote and a big HD, and just use it for a digital home theatre thing.

Use a "KVM" switch. It allows you to use 1 Monitor, keyboard and mouse across several PC's.

I have a 4 port switch. It allows me the following:
1. 1 PC for work
2. 1 PC for fun
3. 1 PC for pron
4. and the last port I use for when my loser friends bring their shit over for me to fix.

A basic 4 port switch on the net runs $20.00 USD + some change and shipping.

Well worth it to me.

A cafe might be a little adventurous, just use it as a slave if you can't do that!
