Ok, hi...
I'd just received this email from a friend and I think you all should look at it. I copied it word for word. And I don't know who started, so don't ask. It's a great idea though. Since this affects everyone with a motorized vehicle(everyone), I figured this should be in the Cars sections. What's you take on this  ?

Subject: LET'S DO IT!

IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.

AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES.

THEREFORE MAY 19TH HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED “STICK IT TO THEM DAY" AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE THAT DAY.

THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.

WAITING ON THIS ADMINISTRATION TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?

REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT AT THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING MATERIALS, MEDICAL SUPPLIES ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO!

WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON’T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY, WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.

SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE MAY 19TH A DAY THAT THE CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES SAY “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH”

H.

Interesting. I talked with a few friends of mine about this, they seem to think the money lost from the companies will be negligible. I'm not so sure. They think that the problem lies within America's inability to refine oil rather than find crude to make into gas. Let me know if they're wrong. Sounds logical to me.

one day?? big deal, people will go to the pumps like normal the next day, and the people who wanted to go that day will also go. It will all even out. Boycotting and attempting to cripple an industry that is vital to our survival as a country (yes, it would not be possible for america to function without oil) is not the greatest move ever. Something dreamed up by someone out there who hates the arabs as much as i do, but thats not how we can do it. We need to work on developing hydrogen cars and such, allowing us to reduce our need for oil. It's not going to work, sorry.

There is a way for this to work but not like this. What is needed is to boycott one company. Exxon for example for a month. Then the next one and so on.

people who would try that are people who dont know what's good for themselves. I would like to have a way for people to do a preview to see what their actions would result in. The collapse of the oil industry is the collapse of every developed nation.
