Xbox 360 Owns Football: http://www.news4gamers.com/industrynews/NewsCom-7084.aspx
This is a MASSIVE blow to Sony! Football Games sell like Hotcakes over here in Europe and everyone you buys either an Xbox/Playstation have at least one or the other (FIFA or Pro Evo/WE). These two Titles are the 2 biggest earners in the European market and the Xbox 360 just got both. Imagine American Football/Basketball/Hockey all rolled into something like an entire entity for you Americans. I think the Wii has some Mario Football exclusive so It means nothing to Wii owners.
After Sonys miserable E3 showing, they didn't even bother at Liepzig: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=19300
It's rare for a videogames show - be it E3, TGS or any other event - to have clear winners and losers from among the top publishers and platform holders. In general, there are positives and negatives on all sides. Take this year's E3 for example, where despite the strong media backlash against Sony's arrogant attitude in their press conference (not to mention their price point), the firm did succeed in showing off a surprisingly polished array of software both in playable and trailer form.
This year's Games Convention in Leipzig is an exception to this rule. There is a very clear winner, and a very clear loser, in the Leipziger Messe this week, as 150,000 consumers are currently finding out - and hundreds of press types have already discovered. The winner is Microsoft. The loser, by means of shameful default, is Sony - whose utter complacency has now reached the level where it couldn't even be bothered putting on a press conference or making any meaningful next-gen related announcement at Europe and the world's biggest videogames event...
I guess this is good news after what the Sony Execs. having been saying lately. When reading the Article I was expecting some biased view but it seems pretty honest. The fact that Sony just lost a massive portion of the European market after losing out on both FIFA + Pro Evo/WE might be their reason for this.
PS3 to cure Cancer: http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/23/playstation-3-to-join-folding-home-for-cure-ps3/
There's no denying it, even though the PlayStation 3 may be the most late, most expensive, and most, um, well ventilated of this this generation's consoles, Sony's also going out of their way to make the device appear as versatile as possible. So hell, if your machine is going to burn energy when not in use, best to put that power suck toward a good cause, right? Stanford and Sony have announced that PlayStation 3s will be able to participate in Cure@PS3, making gamers' consoles massively parallelized computing nodes for the Folding@Home project. (You're on Engadget's Folding@Home team, right?) Right up top is a taste of the eye candy that awaits those who dedicate their Cell processor to stamping out cancer with the Stanford crew, but the veneer doesn't stop there: click on for a slew of sexy new PS3 pics that just surfaced.
FINALLY!!!!!! A positive point to the PS3! No denying it's been a good year since we had some positive PS3 News. This is quite big actually, when your PS3 is Idle it goes into a Mode and runs a large number database and slowly decodes it (at fast speeds) and then send it over it's WiFi to a larger database, all in one software package already installed onto the HDD. The only problems are:
1. It's not optional whether or not you want it on your HD (though you can stop it running).
2. It's going to use alot of power to run the speed it needs to to have enough effect for it to matter.
It leaves me with one question though. If the CELL Processor is capable of curing cancer...Why can't it decode MPEG4?
Xbox 360 Price Drop: http://www.game.co.uk/ViewProduct.aspx?cat=11276&mid=327856&cm_mmc=game-_-xb360-_-xbcore-_-system
Another blow to Sony and Nintendo I guess. Nintendos Wii is 185 GBP (My quid sign broke) and now the Core Xbox 360 is 200GBP and the Core PS3 is 425 GBP. So:
185 Wii
200 Xbox 360
425 PS3
All Core (I might need to check that Wii price, it may be the Premium one)
I have no news for the Wii except new Game footage from Liepzig. I'll probably make a new Thread on the Games.
