I've been trying to figure out lately if using Skype is dangerous or not... I mean, I've heard places that it is practically impossible to trace the calls, however, I've also herad that although it is difficult, it is highly possible. I've listened to many pranks here, and sometimes people will say that the call has been traced and what not... so my question is this:

How realistic is it that you can get 'caught' using skype? I'm pretty sure it is possible, but what are the consequences anyhow? A misdemeanor for phone harassment? I'd appreciate it if anyone could expand on this... you know, tell me if they've ever got caught or almost caught, any concerns... or precautions to take (I know, don't make any threats).. etcetera. Yeah... Thanks!

(on a side note, where can I get the full version of voice changer 4.0 diamond?)

Well it's no worse being caught doing a prank on skype than it is on a normal phone, although it is probably more difficult to get caught on skype. I don't know the consequences exactly but it all depends on what you say. If you don't make any threats like "Ill kill you" then I don't think anything legally can be done other than the person blocking your number (If that is even possible with skype?). Also if you call them a repeated amount of times then that can be harassment as well. To be on the safe said I'd say that if you just call someone one time for a harmless prank it doesn't matter, no one is going to report you if you just call once and don't make threats unless they are paranoid. I remember awhile back there was a whole thread explaining about the legal issues of prank calling but I think I basically summed it up.

And going onto if I've ever been caught, I've only been caught once and it was because I called a person at school without blocking my number and the person's dad called back. Wasn't a big deal though and there were no police involved.

Un-trackable unless it violates international law; all Skype servers are based in Belgium.

I had to deal with the Arkansas Police Department once, but that was with a regular phone and I forgot to block my number. I live in Colorado btw.

Skype is pretty cool. I downloaded it yesterday afternoon.

Although, I have no one to actually phone long distance :(

Is Skype still going to start costing money in 2007?

Awhile back I was getting tons of dumb pranks (not even funny ones) to my home phone. When I called the police they said "Sorry lady, we really can't do anything unless it's atleast seven calls. Then we get you to track the calls for an additional week." So if you're pranking a number just a few times...nothing is going to happen...even if you didn't block your number.

Yeah coldwar? How'd that go over?

I just said it was a misunderstanding, I didn't really say anything, they were just paranoid I guess.
It was just like:
"Hello"
"Hello, do you have an ass I can borrow?"
"Excuse me?"
"Oh sorry wrong number"
That was literally it.

skype is great... using a regular phone when skype is available is a terrible idea
you could easily be traced if you use a normal phone.. or even a calling card + cell phone.

Take advantage of the free US & canada calls until the end of this year by doing as many pranks as u can :)
