I agree that the first half is much better than the second half, but both are still good. Kubrick is great.

The beginning alone makes me want to buy the movie. The rest is good enough to watch if you're in the mood for a war/shooting movie.

Well I like the movie, because it shows what happens when you conscript your soldiers.

I don't really understand why people find the second half boring. Somehow, when they start watching this movie, they think it's a comedy because of how brilliant and outrageous R. Lee Ermey is. They think "man, this is fuckin' funny!" and yet, once they actually get into the WAR, which is what this movie is, a WAR movie, they're like "Deerrr, what happened to the funny shit?"

I love the movie as a whole because it shows what happens to a soldiers mind.

*SPOILERS*

Just the shot at the end where Joker is going to shoot the sniper, he turns slightly to the left and covers his peace sign. Things like that make this movie a true masterpiece and not just a "boot camp movie."

It does seem like a comedy a little bit than slowly turns very serious when Pyle starts losing his mind. I kind of like It the way the movie makes you laugh than before you know It, It gets all serious with soap and towels, and Pyle talking to his rifle, and the ending of Pyle. A Brillant Film. "Didnt your parents give you enough attention when you were a child!"

Ya, the beginning was fuckin hilarious, but if you're in the mood for a war movie there are others out there that I would rather watch.

I think one of the problems with it is in the first half, you are focused on one character. Everything evolves around him, so the other soliders aren't as well developed in your mind, so you don't care about them as much.

And I like the parts where they first get into the country, but the battle scenes just aren't as interesting as the rest of the movie.

The battle scenes were pretty crappy, IMO. The Tet Offensive scene I thought was lame as hell.

I love the little quotes that you dont even notice at first. like: "What makes the grass grow, Blood,Blood,Blood." and "God has a hard on for the marines cause we kill everything we see."

I agree 100%. This is not just a shoot them up movie, it's got more than that.

This movie is virtually perfect. I can't recall the line where Private Pyle says "Full Metal Jacket," in the bathroom is spoken so bad-ass. Just som great acting by the guy who plays Private Pyle. Movie rocks and is 100% a masterpiece..God, Kubrick is the fucking man.
