View Full Version : What song would you play during suicide?

I got this thread idea from another forum.
I'd probably play Judas' Death from Jesus Christ Superstar or Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Word.
I like Epicus Doomicus Metallicus (more like Crappicus Metallicus Titlus mirite) and Tales of Creation the most.
I'd play Pelican's "The Fire in Our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw" album. Shit's like the change of seasons.

I like everything Candlemass has released - except for Dactylis Glomerata which was still decent, but a bit disappointing.
Epicus Doomicus Metallicus is a good place to start with Candlemass.
After that you might want to get Nightfall which features the operatic Messiah Marcolin on vocals.
Most Candlemass fans I've talked to think that Nightfall is their best album. I would say it's a toss up between Epicus and Nightfall.

Totally agree there. BTW, did you know Michael Ammott played on that album? I just found that out a few weeks ago, and I guess it isn't too odd considering his involvment with Spiritual Beggars but still lol.
I don't think anything can surpass the surprised look on my face when I found out Larry LaLonde played Seven Churches, though...

The End - The Doors
Exactly. I'd blow my brains out or cut my wrists/throat* when Morrison starts to scream.
*That's not really how I'd kill myself. I'd get a long rope or chain, at leats a hundred and fifty feet, tie one end to a tree, another around my neck, get in a fast car and just drive. Maybe The End will be playing in the CD player.

If it was in a severe state of depression, I would end it with "Weakness" by Opeth.
And of course, if in a state of anger, it would be "Mandatory Suicide" by Slayer.
Either way, the song will be put on repeat full blast and I'm slitting my throat.

It's not a stupid thread.
Asking what song someone would like to play during suicide is an effective way of asking what they think is the most depressing/doomy song. Which is perfectly valid.
And there are a few humorous responses along with the sincere ones.

That song is being sung is different contexts.
Cash is reflecting back on his life. He is saying that if he could go back and changed things, he wouldn’t do anything different. He regrets nothing.
Trent is singing about sucide. I think it’s off their album leading up to a guy’s sucide and this is the song he kills himself. I know hardly anything about Nine Inch Nails but their videos creep me out.
The song is alot deeper than that though. Am I right or am I just stupid?

Your pretty much right, the entire Downward Spiral album has levels, such as "Heresy" talking about the man losing his faith in God, and whatnot. I believe the song "The Downward Spiral" is when he actually kills himself, since it talks about "so much blood for such a tiny hole" i.e.) when the guy shoots himself. Then "Hurt" is more like his after-life and him reflecting on "if i could start again, a million miles away, i would keep myself, i would find a way", meaning he would find a way for him to live life differently so he doesnt end up killing himself if he could start all over.
Either way, its a touching song, the first time i listened to The Downward Spiral thoroughly i felt deeply depressed for a while.

Meh... you're all a bunch of Doors fanboys. If you knew anything about their discography you'd know that they recorded a much more fitting song, "Yes, the River Knows". Morrison wrote the lyrics based on a case of suicide. The End admittedly would be a kickass song to kill yourself too, but IMO the other song would have much more effect. Crystal Ship would also be a fine choicel.
The track I'd listen to would be Everyday is Exactly the Same by NIN.
