What is Rice?

I know this may seem very obvious for everyone but would someone plz explain what this means. I have a rough idea but dont know the actual definition :confused:

People in the far east eat a lot of rice so people call the drivers "ricers"

I dont wanna turn this into a debate but a lot of people seem to bitch about rice. Some rice is worth moaning about,

ie, big wings that do nothing but add weight.
Underglow, imo, doesnt look good any more it was an early 90's fad that is way past its sell by date.

Some rice is worth raving about,

ie, Skylines, Supras, NSX's, RX7, Civic Type R's (The civic is an aquired taste) but its had nothing but good reviews.

People usually say somthing is RICE, if it looks faster than it actually is. like a stock civic with massivly ott body work.

Me and my friends have plans for "neds".

We're in the process of buying paintball guns. And if we can all put to and buy an old beema or merc for about £500, the windows will be blacked out and we're going on a scally hunting mission.
Drive down the road nice and slow, pull up to a large group of the bastards lower the windows a few inches and let the paintballs fly. They fuckin hurt and with red paint it could be funny to see the reactions when they think they have been shot. :D

I plan to film the lot and it will be on Ebaums as soon as we have done it.

By my definition, which I think fits the idea much better, is any car that's struggling to look fast, but simply falls flat on its face when attempting to do so. Rice is putting a wing on a FWD car. Rice is installing a cold air intake setup right behind the overflow reservior or behind the radiator. Rice is taking the hubcaps off so you look like you have black rims or as a 'weight reduction'. Rice is talking a lot of shit, revving your FUCKING engine annoyingly in every parking lot you drive through. Worst of all, however, rice is SLOOOOWWWWWW and UGLLLYYY!

I have a 1.4 polo, with intake/air filter, cooling system and various new stock parts put back into it. I've spent about £350 on my engine. Then on top for my services and new disk brakes & tyres.

My body work was £1900 for my side skirts, front grill, rear bumper, tiny tiny spoiler, body work repaired and full respray midnight metallic black.

16's at the moment, but soon to get 17s on june 1st.

I've spent £1200 on my sound system. I have two twin 12 inch vibes in the boot, with an alpine 1200w amp. Alpine headset, 50w x 4. two new JVC mid ranges and tweeters in the front, and two pionner 6x9's in the back.

Then I have new black and blue seats, new dials, in car neons (that shine on pedals because I hate seeing the bulb, but it looks nice), tinted windows (proper ones), new chrome pedals & gear stick + nob. new arial outside, chrome one.

So yeah I have a boy racer car, but I've done it properly, I'm just happy because I can do over the 1.6 & 1.8 escort turbos :p. I can nearly do my mates bro's 2.0ltr Calibra.

After £350 of engine mods + all the weight of ICE, your 1400cc polo is beating 1600/1800cc Turbo Escorts? And almost beating a 2000cc Calibra?
Theres no way you have upped that 75bhp car of yours to match and beat these cars, unless you spent it all on NOS. Which doesnt count. :p

The MK4 Series 1 RS Turbo's were pulling 132Bhp

I seriously cant see that polo gaining 57bhp on that kinda money without the nos. I know power to weight plays a part here coz the polo is pretty small, but it still doesnt figure.

Also theres no such thing as an 1800RS Turbo. The RS on its own yeah, but they never made a 1.8 with a turbo.

It's 110 bhp stock(im pretty sure anyways, the polo that is), and like i said the mods are only slight modifications to the body work, and because of the weight of it it can beat alot of slightly better cars off the mark, but in a distance race (meaning when i get out of third gear :p) they catch up quickly. but i still put up a fight :)

Oh and my mates bro's calibra has had shit loads of body work, a heafty custom spoiler on the back doesn't help it. My mate has a 1.8 audi A4 and can beat him.

And...edit again :P My polo is the 96-2000 style and is actually quicker than the new style, then engine is more powerful than the new style..but it is slightly heavier.

i mean, first of all, the VW 1.4 has 75 hp!(and if i don´t remember all wrong, there was a weaker version of that engine at some point) second of all, VW would never take that much power from a engine that small... i mean, their 1.6 had 90 bhp for ages. their 2.0 l had 115.

and if you haven´t made any mods to the engine, or actually, if you haven´t made many mods to the engine it isn´t producing 110 bhp. i promise you.

i respectfully disagree... if the wings geometry is right (which it on the other hand almost never is) it actually does increase high-speed stability.

it´s not only to ensure sufficient grip on the "driving" wheels, it´s also to keep it stable. (for instance, the AUDI TT which had to be fitted with a small spoiler to keep it on the autobahns...)

EDIT: Mine isn't the lastest version of the polo either, it's the 96-00 mk 4. Which has the biggest engine out of the other polos.

Oh sorry guys, I was mislead by the person I was buying off. Anyways here are the full stats for ma polo:

Model: VW Polo 1.4SE 3dr
Engine type: Four-cylinder, 1390cc
Power: 75bhp
Transmission: Five-speed manual
Fuel: 45.6mpg (combined)
Acceleration: 0-60mph: 12.3sec
Top speed: 107mph

But It must be nearer 90-100 with the modifications I have done to it. I can do the 0-60 in about 12 seconds (but im a new driver) and can exceed 115 on the motorway.

Now I might be WAY off but I have never heard of any TRD tuned Hilux ute. :rolleyes:

hahaha....i just have to say...Hell yes. I guess im a redneck if i like trucks with lift kits and huge ass tires. But i like all kinds of cars really. My favorite car would probably be a lexus r330....cheap car, and fast.(It's cheap to me....i think it was about $40000 for us, and our new Tahoe is over $55000.) But to get back on topic, i get in my mom's honda civic and punch it, it sounds like a ricer to me. But it's completely stock. Fun to drive :D
