Just recently picked up some Boston BA7900 speakers for $40, very good deal... But my question is, so far I've had my bass maxed in my volume control, and the sub about 60% on the control module, is this safe for my speakers?

define "safe"

I meant as safe as being safe for the speakers where they wouldn't blow out. I don't know much about speakers and don't want to overload them and fuck them up.

'bass' speakers would normally depend on your EQ setting. What i would suggest is that you set your max volume to unity (the middle portion) and your bass to unity as well (another middle portion) and if you dont get your desired 'bass level' it would mean your quality sucks or your speakers suck. this is how i normally judge things. try not to 'blast' your speakers (i.e. pushing everything maximum)...it will spoil easily.. esp if your playing low quality mp3s, the production will be...bad...remember...crap in, crap out.

if you want nice loud thumping sound go for good speakers, klipsch is a good brand for 'normal' & relatively cheap speakers. i got myself the promedia GMX A-2.1. good low end + good mid/high

hope this will help

Yeah, thats what I wanted to know.

Right now the speakers I got are great, the bass is almost killing me just a little over mid point and with 80% bass on tone control. Wasn't sure if it was going to kill my speakers also.

Just watch them. If you feel like they are jumping way too much, back off. You should hear them distort when you push them to their limits.
