It's pretty much an article on Nintendo's plan with the Wii. It's a long article but is a must read for anyone interested in next gen gaming. Shows what Nintendo's plan was all along, and how they will most likely dominate the console war.

this article is sooooo negative to nintendo. they will "disrupt" this, disrupt that, disrupt everything.

in short, if you dont want to read this article: nintendo will knock sony out of the console ballpark, like apple's ipod killed sony's walkman, so too will Wii destroy the playstation.

The article is not being negative to Nintendo(unless if you where sarcastic). Disrupting the industry is a good thing, lets you take control for a bit.

And people really should read this instead of taking your recap. To really get the full affect of it. And remember, there are 5 pages to it.

I agree with the first paragraph of the article. He says;

As kids, we rush to grow up. As adults, we long to be children again.

That says it all. To be honest, before I could spend hours with even the shittiest games and have fun.... But now, I am bored as fuck! Almost no game interests me anymore. I was kind of scared at first because games are and will always be a passion of mine, but I sort of burned out of that age. I can't have fun with some of the shit that comes out now. Last 2 games that I actually enjoyed and made me feel like a kid again was Kingdom Hearts 2 and Resident Evil 4. Even amazing games like Shadow of the Colosus don't do it for me anymore.

That's why I am happy about the Wii. Nintendo makes me feel like a kid again, and I say that in a good way.

Well, I read allof it and I get the gist of it, but I don't think its going to work, their gonna have to be thinking really hard to come up with games that will atract the rest of the market, namely 35-ish+ year olds and up.

Plus, with the Ipod comparison, Apple had their work cut out for them, because the music was already there, all they had to do was create a new image for its product and present it as an easy to use, portable and hassle free.

Where as with the Wii, not only do they have to create the new image but in trying to do that they have to somehow manage to destroy alot of pre-consieved notions about gaming that is imbeded in alot of peoples minds, sure the DS's Mind game was a step towards that, but the difficulty steepness goes straight vertical from there on in my option.

Also they will have to come up with more games that will atract the new market, which I believe will be difficult, unlike the Ipod where everyone already had their own music an all they were creating was a new medium of usage, Nintendo will have to go the whole nine yards from the start.

They've done that with the DS already. Older Audiences loved Brainage(Which they also have planned for the wii). But yeah, that's not enough to attract someone to the system. Golf games, party games and other shit may attract older audiences but I really can't predict that. We'll just have to see if they can attract older audiences.

Plus, with the Ipod comparison, Apple had their work cut out for them, because the music was already there, all they had to do was create a new image for its product and present it as an easy to use, portable and hassle free.

Nintendo already has what looks like a strong release titles and has good support from 3rd party developers. The walkman was portable and hassle free, but the Ipod was different and easier to use. which is what Nintendo is trying to do with the Wii.

They managed to make gaming popular with the NES. Gaming was thought of as a fad that would just pass on until the NES came about. I don't see why they can't do that again with the Wii and make that appeal to newer audiences. But we'll see, they may or may not succeed.

Also they will have to come up with more games that will atract the new market, which I believe will be difficult, unlike the Ipod where everyone already had their own music an all they were creating was a new medium of usage, Nintendo will have to go the whole nine yards from the start.

It's not hard to appeal to more women. One of the reasons there aren't as many women gamers as there are is due to the fact developers make games aimed mainly at males. If they wanted to they could make games appealing to both sexes.

The older age groups will be more challenging though. Don't want to say they can hook them because they might not be able to. But I think it's possible. We'll just have to wait and see.

okay i suppose. it just had a negative connotation in my opinion. to me it just made nintendo sound like an evil cooperation trying to literally destroy sony and MS, which of course is an optimal business strategy, but i just thought they worded it in an evil way.

when you flame someone you try and flame them while been right.

The Wii is going to do very well, not because its going to be the most power machine, but because its cheap and different.

the gamecube might have been " a commerical diaster" in north america, but, correct me if im wrong. Isnt it really popular everywhere else. Way more popular then the xbox.

And i thought the ipod vs walkman was a bad comparison, espically the way it was used. Its like comparing a black and white tv (walkman) to a plasma tv(ipod) Walkman was good for its day(remember cassettes?) and ipod only exisited after cds had been out for a LONG time and dvds were the norm.

If you understand what i'm saying great. if not... well cant do much about it :rollseyes

That was a pretty good article.....after reading it, I definitley think that is exactly what Nintendo was trying to do.

Whether or not it will really "disrupt" everything, I'm not sure. It is a pretty good possibility though. I think a lot of people are wanting something new with gaming, and not the same old, same old with slightly better graphics. I guess time will tell...

I guess the Wii will fail, what with no one liking it, its price, its lack of 'stuff' to do and its pathetic controller ....

this is nintendo's last gasp, all or nothing attempt.

ps3 is sony's try to win with a much higher quality but overcomplicated machine.

360 is a rather conservative system that will rake in some good money or be underachieving at worst.

ps3 are gonna have to change their price if they hope to suceed.. its entring the market at about $800, the xbox (by then) and the wii will be much less than half of that.

good article, bit too many quotes.. i dont really agree though... the psp hasnt been made "irrelevant"

It's in no way Nintendo's last gasp. They'll keep making consoles as long as they want because they make profit. Microsoft lost almost $4 billion in their games division last generation. Nintendo and Sony both made $5 billion. Their first party library made them profit despite the gamecube's lack of third party titles.

there is no doubt, in nintendos and pretty much any well-informed mind, that Wii will sell well and will profit nintendo. even if PS3 outsells it, Wii will still do good.
