How is there not a thread about this already? Oh yeah, because Gurode is an O-lineman, not a star.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth was ejected early in the third quarter Sunday after he kicked Dallas center Andre Gurode in the face. Now the tackle expects to be punished, and knows he deserves it.

"I apologize to Andre," Haynesworth said. "What I did was disgusting. It's something that should never happen. I mean, I'm not a dirty player. I don't play dirty. I have respect for the game. What I feel like is I disgraced the game, disgraced my team and disgraced my last name."

Julius Jones had just scored on a 5-yard run, putting Dallas up 20-6 in what wound up as a 45-14 victory. Gurode's helmet came off, and Haynesworth, standing over him, used his right foot to kick Gurode in the head.

"What I did was disgusting," the Titans' Albert Haynesworth said of his stomp on Cowboys center Andre Gurode's face.
Gurode said they hadn't been talking or having any exchanges that led to Haynesworth kicking him twice. He received stitches above his forehead and beneath his eye.

"In all my years of football, this has never happened to me. I've never been kicked in the face like this, and I've never seen anybody kick nobody else in the face," Gurode said.

A flag was thrown, and Haynesworth followed an official toward the Titans' sideline, protesting.

Haynesworth pulled off his helmet and slammed it to the ground, prompting another flag. Referee Jerome Boger disqualified Haynesworth, and the player walked off the field after talking briefly with Titans coach Jeff Fisher.

The coach called Haynesworth's actions unacceptable and promised he would be punished by the Titans even if the NFL disciplines him.

"It's ridiculous to get to that point. Two back-to-back penalties like that, there's no place for it," Fisher said.

Gurode didn't play the rest of the second half.

"This vision was kind of blurry in my left eye," he said. "If it was clear, I would have tried to come back in to play."
If the NFL lets this go without serious punishment, both via fines and a severe suspension, it will be a travesty of justice. This could have easily ended Gurode's career if it were not for sheer dumb luck. More than 30 stitches above and below the eye and he could have easily put his eye out.

I never thought I'd say this but I agree with something Chris Collinsworth said yesterday. The police should get involved here. Stomping on someone's exposed head with a pair of football spikes is assault, plain and simple.

Anything less then a full season suspension will be a black eye for the NFL.

I watched this and honestly I was sick to my stomach. Sticking SPIKES to a dudes head, with no helmet, that's ridiculous.

Afterwards I saw the interview with Haynesworth, he's talking now he disgraced his last name and how "he was looking at his kids, and he didnt want them to do things like that", give me a break...now if he would have PUNCHED the guy, then that would be the case. But to stick your SPIKES...in a dudes HEAD is like..attempted murder haha.

Although this was a horrid case of emotions on the field getting the best of someone, I don't think the authorities should be involved. The NFL should suspend him for 4 games and the Titans should add 2 more, he should be fined minimum of 25k.

That being said, it was fairly relieving to hear a professional athlete accept responsibility for his actions and not try to pass the buck or blame the victim, but he still needs to be made an example of.

At least it is not one of those BS "with pay" suspensions. Money says the player's association will try to fight it, which is more BS.

Apology my ass. Not only did this jackass blatantly attempt to harm someone but proceeded to bitch about it being called a penalty and threw his helmet down in disgust. His "apology" should have no part in the decision of how many games he gets suspended. If I did this to someone on the street do you think I would get any less of a sentence if I said I am sorry, doubtful.

EXACTLY, what was he going to do? Defend his actions? Of course he was going to say he was sorry, when I'm sure he wasnt considering like you just said, the dude was complaining to the refs AND his coach about the call.

He should definitely be suspended the rest of the year and a few games next season.

Cleats hurt, my hand has been stepped on before (albeit in rugby) and it swelled up bigger then my hand actually was. 5 games seems fair tho, what I wonder would happen if the refs never saw it.. (in rugby this actually happens a lot)

I hate that guy.. give him the death penalty. What pisses me off is how he protests the whole way to the sideline and throws his helmet when he just kicked his fucking head, then apologizes and tries to act like he didnt mean to.
