The New York Yankees took the first game of the playoffs. Derek Jeter went 5 for 5, homering in his last at bat as the crowd chanted "MVP."

jeter's a beast

my brother's theory (he's a met fan) that abreu doesnt hit in the clutch sure looked wrong last night

I'm not sure that 8-4 is a "whipping" and I'm also not sure that game 1 of the ALDS is "clutch" either. But the Yankees look damn good, that's for sure.

well it was a whipping, considering that the tigers pitching is supposed to be their strong point.
and any point in the playoffs is clutch. abreu came through when he had to last night, and his 4 rbis were the difference in the game

I'd agree there was nothing close to a whipping and there should not be a time the Yankees get too confidant, they have more experience in the playoffs than the Tigers as team and the tigers have lost what 6 straight, if their coach gets their heads thinking right and focus on their strengths before the next game they can come out rather strong. They don’t win the next game there is no series. And Jeter is a clutch player he plays like he is losing every night.

The Tiger's pitching is their strong point, but Nate Robertson is their #4 starter, #5 when Maroth is healthy. The Yankees #1 against their #4 should have that outcome. I like the Yankees to win again tonight. Verlander is a rookie and hit the proverbial rookie wall.

Detroit going home on a win may just be the spark that Chewy was talking about. If they win the first game in Detroit, it may become difficult for the Yankees.

You should always wait before you post when it comes to this. For instance when the Red Sox were down 0-3 to the Yanks someone made a thread here the curse continues for the Red Sox. Then we all know what happened after that.
