View Full Version : I have given up on console gaming!!

That's right, I just sold my PS2, my Gamecube, and my Xbox, and all the games. All the games stink, there is only a handful of titles that held my attention for all those consoles. Every console game I have played in the past two years has bored me to death in under an hour. Good riddance.

Now here's the question: Should I be interested in the next generation consoles? I have been peeking here and there at the PS3 and the Wii, and really don't see anything interesting at all. By "anything interesting" I mean "good games". Is it just me or do all these next gen console games look like shit? I can't find more than a few titles that got my attention.

But, like I said, I'm not really keeping up with it, so...

Tell me something cool about one of the next gen consoles (PS3, 360, Wii) that would make me want to buy it.

well, what kind of games do you like. From the sounds of things your are a PC gamer, which could mean so many things. It really depends on your style of game whether or not consoles are for you or not, they may simply not be.

I like all types of games. FPS are my least favorite, though.

If you've sold all 3 of your consoles, I don't see any reason at all why I would want to convince you to buy a next generation console.

You know, I don't believe you hate console gaming.

I don't hate it, actually, I want to like it. I wish the games were better.

Maybe I'm just getting old. Someone tell me that's not true! :ohnoes:

Each system has a lot of games coming out that make the system look good. It seems to me like Playstation systems always have a lot of RPG's, racers, and platform games. The only FPS I can remember seeing for PS3 is Resistance Fall of Man and then another, can't remember the name but it looked cool. 360 has some cool FPS's coming out like Raindbow Six: Vegas and Bioshock. The Wii has an FPs coming out called "Red Steel" and you use the Wii controller like a gun to shoot and also like a sword.

I have a 360 and I might get a Wii but I dont have enough money for a PS3

Honestly I have yet to see any games that are next generation. Perfect Dark was disappointing and so was 99 Nights for XBox 360. I can't say for PS3 or Wi, obviously because it has yet to be released. And remember that next gen doesn't mean fancy graphics.

That does look cool. Score 1 for the 360. I would need at least 10 cool games in order to warrant the purchasing a new system. Keep em coming.

Hmm... more FPS. I really don't get into those too much, unless they are amazingly awesome like System Shock 2 or Half Life. Show me something amazingly awesome coming out for a console.

Exactly. That's the problem, the graphics. So much of games is cutscenes and graphics displays that there really isn't much of a game left. Good graphics are nice, but I want gameplay, adventure, puzzles, and secrets to have a higher priority. Also I want some different types of games. Katamari Damacy for example.

to be totally honest, the only thing I really play on consoles anymore is sports games. And even now, with the joysticks out there, I could probably play them just as easily on my PC. It's a hard argument, the simplicity is really the only strong point of console gaming, that and playing on a TV instead of a monitor.

you're in my situation 5 years ago. console games didn't have enough depth and were pretty plain and boring. that's when i got into PC games and missed out on the whole PS2/GameCube/Xbox console generation. i never really looked back since then, but now it seems like consoles are joining online world and i might buy a console.

Tell me something cool about one of the next gen consoles (PS3, 360, Wii) that would make me want to buy it.

Yeah, gaming in general has been down, even for PC, but the future is bright for PC cause the companies we trust are releasing these:

Half Life 2 Episode 2 (Actually i just got done with Ep1, and it was awsome)
Team Fortress 2 (FPS Really awsome multiplayer, new and fresh game play)
Portal (New kind of Game from Valve)
Quake Wars Enemy Territory (FPS by ID, looks really awsome gameplay)
Supreme Commander (RTS Insance looking)

There are plenty more, like Warhammer MMO, Vanguard, and ect, I can't think of them all right now, but Vanguard looks really awsome. I am only listing the ones that I think I could play hardcore for a while without being bored.

PS3, and Xbox360 suck, they really are just going to release a new Halo 3, or Grand Theft Auto, and pretty much everything from last gen, but with prettier graphics, and noobier gameplay.

The only console I could see getting is the Nintendo Wii, they seem to be going for somthing different, and maybe a little more old school. Looks like a great party console.

Also, not to mention the Xbox360 has crappy hardware, lots of peoples burnt out cause of overheating, not to mention the lag.

PS3 I don't know, but the only thing they seem to be trying to have is prettier graphics (depends on the dev I guess, but most companies are out to make a buck, that goes for PC too), but if you want to really compete in that PC wins, they brag about having PhysX, but PC just came out with the Havok4 physics engine.

Not that its about graphics anyways, I would much rather have intresting gameplay with descent graphics.

(O, btw console are getting torn off versions of games like TF2 and HL2, just the way it is, same with PC's we get torn off versions of console games, also have fun with the 4v4 matches in the multiplayer game TF2, and if its on Xbox 360, the pay to play online)

To sum it up, I say wither get the Wii, which I think has good potential plus it is a console that will not cost the price of a PC

Or get a PC, which is versatile, seems to have a good future of games ahead (games that are a little deeper, and less simplistic), you can get a top of the line for 1400$

But if you were to prefer some rushed consoles, I would choose the PS3 over the Xbox360, because Xbox360 has crappy hardware, and if somone says otherwise, they are either getting their balls waxed, or they bought one, and are in denial.

EDIT:

Wo, look what I just found,

http://www.cepro.com/news/editorial/15956.html

I find it amazing that both consoles have overheating hardware

Yeah, it seems to me that nintendo is going to win this round, not with pretty graphics but with affordable console, affordables games, innovation, and the general goal to try and make there games more fun, and less pretty. O, and did I mention that half of their games are not trying to do a cheap imitation of basic PC games. Their companies seem to be going for origonality! I haven't seen that in a while.

Not since the days of Sega eh?

In terms of consoles... don't bother for at least 2 years... in fact buy back all the previous gen consoles (DC, PS2, GC, Xbox) and play all the great games you didn't get round to playing last time... while you're doin that the incoming gen will get more reliable, cheaper, and there might actually be a few games you want to play.

Dead Rising is a hardcore life sucker though.

The only problem I have with the Wii is that I don't want to move my arm around that much, I move enough moving in my job, I just want to remain still and play games. Although, I do want to play Zelda and Mario.

From what i've seen so far, the tracks and the cars look nearly perfect. The the gameplay in the series is solid, too. If you like racing games, try it out.

And of course, assassins creed. You said you're not into FPS games much, so I won't mention any of those.

but most importantly:

Mass Effect

Oh, and Guitar Heros II (delayed until 07, though)
http://ps2.ign.com/objects/823/823033.html

(Multi-console)

But yeah. Most of the better games this gen are going to be multi-console anyways, so it won't matter which one you pick for awhile. Definately wait until at least next year before you buy a system, though; cheaper, and more games.

So you get bored of smacking zombies with just about anything you care to pick up. Then finding other ways to make the smackage even funnier (did you try heating up a frying pan to burn their faces off or hitting them with a mannequin until it falls into bits and then hitting them with the bits?). You got bored of rescuing people and equipping them with comedy weapons to make a posse? You got bored of trying to take photos up ladies' skirts for big points? You got bored of putting buckets and comedy cuddly toy heads on passing zombies and them hitting them with toy foam swords? I only played it for a day (and I mean a day) and I know I've only scratched the surface.

Dead rising is old school hard with new school freedom and depth and a sense of humor. I recommend you give up playing videogames and go back to watching gameshows, someone will be round soon to wipe the drool from your chin shortly.

Oblivion looks better on my PC than my friends 360. And yes Oblivion had HDR/Bloom for PC'. Plus the 360 had worse load times, and much crappier framerates. But then again Oblivion was just a quick port for the 360, they didn't put any effort to designing the game for it's architecture/kit, or it would have been better then the PC version.

Taken from Oblivion site for Improving performance:

"# Set HDR Lighting to OFF. This will increase your framerate but degrade visual quality.

# Use Bloom lighting instead of HDR, or turn Bloom off. Bloom is a less intensive version of HDR. Turning it off will improve framerate but degrade visual quality.

Just go on with the PC. Seriously, 360 and PS3s are just trying to make smaller PCs that dont have keyboards. PC would be the way to go.

And I bought Dead Rising..man is that game terrible. Just terrible. Some bosses respawn after I blow their heads off, other times I get people I'm supposed to save but they wont follow me. And there isnt enough god damn save points.
Overall the game fuckin sucks dick. It could be so good, but since every mission is a fuckin "LETS ALL GO SAVE PEOPLE AND BRING THEM BACK TO THE SECURITY ROOM!" mission, it just fucks the whole game over. Fuck you Dead Rising, you and your fuckin saving people bullshit.

Try tooling them up, the game becomes much less about saving people than taking your posse round to fuck up zombies when you save commited people and give them weapons. You have to get the right people though, some of them are pussies. Try the Japanese tourists.

You're forgetting about the overall mission to take photos, and the storyline missions which are often to follow that copper around. You don't have to save hardly anyone. If you haven't got time or can't be bothered then let em die, who cares, it's only points and you can get points from taking pictures of women's knickers. To complete every scoop on the 1st pass is almost impossible anyway, do it on a later replay when you're much harder.

I think the spacing of the save points is pretty good, you have to know where they are and how to get to them, but it would be boring to me if I was allowed to save every corridor. What can I say, I like a challenge.

I've not encountered any respawning bosses myself... but that would piss me off. Where does that happen?

I really believe that anyone that doesn't like Dead Rising at least a bit should give up on playing games now and should go and take up a hobby that requires less intelligence, humor, and imagination. Maybe you could become a special constable or whatever equivalent you have near you.

Where's Wii60? He hasn't fucked this thread up yet!

But I agree that games now, and in the near future, aren't as good as I'd have hoped.

Each console has the fanboy games, which eveyone thinks makes their console worth buying, IN THEIR OPINION.

I think I read in this post that sombody said to wait a while before buying anything, and that person would be right. Give the new wave time to sink in, since all we really have is the 360 ATM, and the games that are currently released for it.

NOBODY knows how Halo 3, MGS 4,or Zelda (among others) will be, since they aren't out and nobody has played them.

As for this very moment, I can only talk about the 360 since its the only one out. A few of my friends bought it, and it does have some awsoem features. I really like the new XboxLive, it was a big improvment. And tehre was a game coming out that looked awsome (Hallow planet? I think thats it). Other than that, no games really interest me excpet for oblivion, which id just buy for $10 cheaper for my PC with better graphics. Dead Rising also is fun, I thought it was a great idea for a game. I also love the on/off thing on the controller :)

Halo 3 is a different stroy for me. Halo 1 was an awsome game, and I really enjoyed playing it. Halo 2 i never beat, cause it felt way to similar to the first one, and I know its a sequel, but it didnt offer too much more. I also didnt think the online play is all that amazing. So Halo 3 for me is something im skeptical about, but I would love to see it be as awsome as a lot of ppl/articles say.

Some people might take taht as "omfg halo is t3h ownz j00 noob. u kno noth1ng of gamezzzz!!@#!", But Im going to wait and see for myself, instead of reading one-sided arguments. I do hope it comes out good though.

I did pre-order a Wii, since I love Zelda, being one of the first games ive ever played. I think with the new controller, it will be a blast to play, and I hope its going to be as good as previous Zelda titles. There are toher games Id like to try too(SSB:B, Red Steal, Mario Kart etc), but Im not gonna go into all that.

PS3 is something i really want. Last year i had the choice of PS2 or Xbox, and I chose Xbox.(i dont own PS2). I wanted Xbox for Halo, almost exclusively, and i regret that decision every day. I barely use my xbox anymore (although my brother plays Halo2 all the time so it gets used), and tehre are a slew of games Id really have liked to play, if I had a PS2. So this time, when i can get the money/they become available Im going to purchase a PS3, since there are games like Silent Hill 5 (i think its ps3), MGS4, FF, and all otehrs to come out, that i really dont want to miss. Size isnt an issue either for me, since the original Xbox was always being made fun of for its size, but it seemed to do jsut fine.

Really, it's anyones game right now. Nobody can predict the future, and if they can and are wasting the amazing powers on video games, then seriously, lol.

Opionion for me, im leaning towards no system at all really, as I've yet to try them all. And unlike some ppl in the world, i belive/hope that they will all be great.

FUCK ya i dumped gaming a year ago they seem to childish , i only keep my ps2 around for movies , and FIFA when friends are over other than that we im on the roll

How old are you?
I'll be 30 this month.

Thanks for the comments, I really appreciate everyone input on this.

Ok, so I've decided I'm getting the Wii. It's so cheap that even if I don't like it that much it won't leave a huge dent in my bank account. Plus, I think it will be really fun for 2 player games, and I always have people hanging out over here. And it has Zelda, which might be worth the the $250 alone. Hell, I spent more than that trying to get my pc to run Half Life 2.

PS - I may give up console games but I will never give up PC games. :D
