I prefer metal, but i also hate all the new age punk bands that have ruined the definition of 'punk'. It was supposed to mean out of the ordinary and original, but almost all the bands nowadays are the exact same 'punk band' ie: Good charlotte, sum41, blink 182 etc.. Maybe some time they can have a good song, but they all sound the same. I mean bands like the sex pistols and Ramones were good, and out of the ordinary like punk should be.

In most cases, what people call speed metal is just fast thrash. Math metal and mathcore are unofficial genres, though, so I didn't list them. If you know any good bands and stuff by them, list 'em, I need some recommendations, too. :D

hmmm well I dont personally like the "new" Punk thats out atm such as Good Charlotte and New Found Glory and things like that. But what about bands like Dropkick Murphys Ive heard a few songs by these guys and its just fuckin awesome, and Snot which im not sure if it falls into Punk, Metal, or Nu-Metal its just kinda weird I really wish the singer didnt die cause they coulda been classic IMO.

As for metal (which i dont actually listen much to) is Soulfly, theres just somethin about that tribal shit that drives me nuts. And i guess my favorite Nu-metal is Hed-P.E. I mean you gotta gives these guys some credit the music is almost too damn awesome the way the whole band comes together to make some insane ass music i fuckin love it.

The only pure black metal bands on there are Mayhem, Emperor, Darkthrone and Nargaroth, all of which I'm not too big on. There's more to metal than anti-christian lyrics. Hell, almost anything that isn't black metal.. I have black metal sig/avs because in a lot of cases, they are just too stupid not to make fun of. Their combination of scathingly offensive lyrics and ludicrous actions are laughable, I'll agree with you on that.

let me clarify. you are talking about "punks", not punks (except when you start talking theologically..but then again....any kind of band, not a genre, can carry an anti or pro God message..ive heard christian death metal before..) so back to clarifying. "punks" are emo-driven, emotionally unstable, shallow, mindless, conforming (even though they pretend not to) people. i think that "punks" dress gay everywhere. straight jet black hair, all black clothes with girl pants. they also most often are very defensive of their music. its all part of the feel bad for me image. this image is driven by no-talent bands who monopolize on the image. because these people have very little self esteem, they will follow whatever the latest trend is.

if you look at all of the stickers or buttons they have, you will see the bands that they listen to are not true punk (such as misfits, ramones, afi and such, but instead emo-ish bands). in my opinion, emo bands make baby jesus cry and make God kick himself for allowing such stupid talentless people to exist. on the other hand, it does give you a good person to make fun of and be mean to (could they be the 21st century's jews? i hope so). they all have a sort of pack mentality..if youve ever noticed..they always hang out with eachother and noone else. the reason they do this? the same reason that small fish and other defenseless creatures hang around in packs, they are weak. if they were to try to pull that whole feel sorry for me bullshit somewhere outside of their fragile self created hell they would be destroyed..instantly..most likely by real punks. to compare real punks to the animal world, they are more of a solitary creature, strong on their own and able to survive without support from anyone else. in other words, where "punks" pretend not to care about anything but really do, punks dont care about other people. telling the difference is very simple. here is how:

"punk"-characteristic "punk" look, listens to talentless, harmless, and overall bland music. does not seem secure, hangs out with clones of himself. combs hair straight everyday. tries to make references to the new cky video every other sentence. SHY.

punk-outgoing, keeps to ones self, but does hang out with others like his self at times. does not care about what other people say. will most likely say what one thinks. does not have a characteristic look.

I've always considered those two a state of mind rather than actual music.

After G.G. Allin, I really can't see myself calling anyone punk. So is punk (being G.G. Allin) better than metal? Well who is metal? The metal guys in this form have the lock down on what is metal (as seen in their laundery list of the varying sub-genres). So if that is the case and I had to choose between G.G. or all those other bands, I would side with G.G. I mean, if I were stranded on a desert island and had to choose between any of the bands listed by the metal guys or any G.G. Allin record, that would be my choice.

Most of what so-called punk fans like isn't really punk. If you call yourself a punk fan and you watch MTV or Fuse of basically any sort of TV channel that involves music, you are not a punk fan. True punk is not aired on any television network or major radio station, for true punk you need to see local concerts or listen to local radio. There may be a couple bands that remained true to the punk genre and still made it big, but that list is very short I'm sure. And so, I haven't had much exposure with any real punk. The stuff that the confused suburban teenager calls punk I can't stand though, like Good Charlotte and Simple Plan. Green Day was all right but wasn't really punk.

I also wouldn't call myself a metal head either. I have a very different opinion on what metal really is than just about any metal head. Black Sabbath is my favorite band of all time, and they were the founders of the metal genre. However, I'm not a really big fan of the metal bands that existed in the 70s and 80s, and I like newer metal even less. Still, I'd take any sort of metal over all the pop, hip-hop, and rap shit that has flooded society, and over almost any punk or poser punk as well.

Finally, I'd like to say that the anti-conformity lifestyle of today's teenagers sickens me. It's so incredibly hypocritical it just makes me sad. Most of them are really conforming to their peers by joining them in their anti-conformist way of life, and are just becoming exactly what they're rebelling against. *Sigh* It's a hopeless argument I suppose, maybe I'm too idealistic.

Ok, I'll post something about this whole punk vs. metal debate. I haven't been exposed to a whole hell of a lot of metal in my life. Just looking at Sezril's list I was shaking my head in confusion. "Who the fuck are these dudes?" But I downloaded a few songs and I was quite impressed. Though I will say that metal and punk aren't exactly opposites. I can name a few bands that mix metal and punk quite well. F-Minus, Leftover Crack, and a local band (my favorite) called The Lurking Corpses. So don't ever count something out as not being possible. My .27 cents.

ozzfest has like 20 bands, and killswitch wasnt very popular at the time, so thats why it means they dont suck, probably about 1/6(if that) of the people in the crowd have ever heard killswitch
