Just saw it on ESPNEWS. Tragic news. Kind of hard to believe he was just pitching 4 days ago.

Hey, the guy didn't get clearance from the tower before take-off. I suppose you consider that smart?

He hasn't been confirmed dead. They said he owns the plane and CNN says "Pitcher feared Dead" so we still don't know.

4 people are dead, you think his family was with him? Or was it people in the building.

the reports are the pilot was alone in the plane, and the 3 other dead were in the building

I'm going to be completely honest, I'm in no way happy he died, but I don't care. I didn't know him personally or care about him when he was alive, so his death means about as much to me as any of the other thousands of people who have died today.

It will be annoying that there will be even more Yankee coverage distracting from the playoffs.

Consider me heartless or an ass if you want, but that's pretty much my whole reaction to it.

got that from my sports channel here in Canada, but they are owned by ESPN. They also say that ESPN reports on this. I don't think it has been confirmed yet? Although it doesn't confirm he is dead, they are reporting it as if he is.

EDIT: I think hes dead... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15223650/

Yeah, you've seen him in a lot of interviews, but I haven't. To me, he's just a random person. I'm sure if one wanted, they could find a hundred other people who died today, all of which are as good of people as Lidle. There won't be national new stories about them.

I'm not saying you can't miss people you never met, but I never found Lidle's life interesting, why should his death be any different?

The thing I thought was the worst was that they had been covering it for at least an hour, and they said that his family hadn't been notified yet. How could nobody bother to tell them?

Its pretty sad, i mean, the guy knew he was probably up shit creak for a while before he crashed. Must suck to be making millions and millions of dollars and know you aren't going to live to spend it. Guess he plays for the Angels now.

I agree. Especially since he is safer in the plane than he was driving his car to the airport.

Second Yankee to die learning to fly, Cory lidle joins Thurman Munson in plane on Yankee violence. Steinbrenner bans beards but doesn't care if they fly?

If his passion was flying then it was his destiny. It doesn't matter if he made $20,000 a year or $15 millon a year.

Really just crazy. He has flown during the season (dumb i think), but for this to happen.. is just unbelievable. I always thought he was just an average pitcher, but hearing about him and how he went about himself, it really makes you feel kinda shitty.

He was just a regular guy who played baseball.

wonder what he was doing, im not saying it was suicide by any means but they showed a computer animation of teh crash on cnn and his plane did a u-turn into the city where he hit a building, i heard it may have been a blown engine, but the way he turned was so weird, theres no black box on the plane he was in, so there will always be unanswered questions about this tradgedy

So... who's the greatest player to die in a plane crash?

I think it's Clemente, hands down.

easy.

But I have to say at first I didn’t believe it… about Cory Lidle hitting a building… I mean the Yankees couldn’t hit anything this post season… (yes I went there.)

Joking aside these things are sad but at least he died doing something he loved, not many of us will have that opportunity.

wait...he loved flying airplanes into buildings? That's just wrong.

All joking aside, the strongest feeling I'm dealing with after this is just how much I hate the media. When it becomes a race to get the scoop and nobody is concerned with facts, then the system is really fucking flawed. I mean, everyone reported at least 4 people died, everyone reported it was only Lidle in the plane, everyone reported 3 people died in the buidling as a result of the crash. All of which they are saying now isn't the case, it was only a total of 2 deaths, Lidle and the flight instructor who was with him, and they are unsure who exactly was in control of the plane. wtf? I mean, you could follow it down the line. If, for example, Yahoo said it was four people, you could follow it down the line even on the 'net, bam CNN says 4, bam ESPN says 4, so on and so forth. The most obvious case of this shit, especially in recent events, was the miner situation in WV. I mean, how fucking terrible is it to have countless news sources saying they are all alive, and turns out that all but 1 is dead. Someone said they were alive and it was a dead sprint to tell people they were, not even a jog to find out if that was true or not.

news sucks

Well the media is only a reflection of our own selves, they raced out to gather info because WE wanted it, WE felt the need for the details. If it didn’t serve our desire to hear the gory details they would not have been out there. But at the same token it displayed how intense the scares from 9/11 truly are.

yeah well, if WE want gory details so bad, then don't you think WE we want accurate gory details?
