View Full Version : 6... or 7?

So I went to guitar center recently and looked at some guitars. I saw a used JEM, an older model with the ebony fretboard for $1600. I also saw a used older Universe - $1000. Now I dont know which one to get. They both have the floyd rose, but I already have a 6 string with a Floyd Rose and awesome playing.

I played, and preferred the Universe because it was set up better.
It will take me longer to save for the JEM of course, and I could get a new one for 2k. If I could find one, I'd get a floral pattern JEM, I like the way they look.

Both Ibanez, so the craftmenship is the same.

I say go with the JEM. It will be well worth the extra 600 dollars.

Plus, how could you pass up a guitar as beautiful as the JEM?

Really? I love how they look. But for each his own.

It all comes down to what you like the most. You need buy whatever you feel fits you best.

There's no use in buying a guitar that you don't even feel right playing.

True. More about the feeling of playing it. I like the flat, thin necks, but the fretboard on the 7 string is fucking huge.

Yea that JEM is a Steve Vai signature, id definetly get that one.

I've seen him play more often with the JEM. Have you seen the video for Tender Surrender? God damn, I creamed my pants.

He used a swirled Universe on For The Love Of God video. The JEM I played was set up terribly, but the Universe was set up really well. So I dunno.
