For me and the other two NBA fans in this forum...

Biggest Draft Steal: Jordan Farmer, good experience and offensive talent.

Biggest Dissapointment: Knix, I have no reason to believe that they will do more than slightly better based on the fact that they didn't get a Kobe/LeBron in a trade.

Most Under-rated team that might make a splash playoff time: Lakers, so much potential, so little success, they have Bynum and Farmer who can be good players later on and Kobe and Lamar due is pretty damn good, Kobe needs to shoot a bit less but more importantly, others like Lamar need to be way more aggresive.

Finals Predictions: Suns/Mavs Vs. Bulls/Heat

Diss & Cuss.

I'll predict that the Pistons fall apart this year, and the Spurs will win the championship.

Due to the Pistons breakdown the Cavs will take the east.

Jordan Farmar? Lmao...

Yeah lakers will make the playoffs. Pistons didn't fall apart... You gotta be kidding me, no doubt in my mind Tayshawn Prince won't make the All-Star team this year man, he always shows up in the playoffs. I lost my respect for Ben Wallace, I think Billups will carry the team this year.

The cavs only have LeBron, yet again... It'll still get 'em the playoffs though. Miami will not repeat, they won off major bullshit, shaq will get worse wade will get better so it will even out and they will probably go pretty far, but not repeat.

The spurs are only getting worse as the years go by...

I agree with Suns or Mavs getting to the finals, also Detroit or the Cavs.... Trust me, the bulls won't start off well... it just won't happen the first year.

Travmire
10-14-2006, 12:38 AM
I didn't say Detroit fell apart, I said they will during the season.

And the Spurs still have three great players in their prime. Their surrounding cast is getting old, but I think they can still get the job done.

I doubt the Heats will win it, they probably won't have the drive for it.

The Bulls are hard to judge right now, they will either be really good or really average. Wallace will anchor the middle, we just need to see if some of their young players will take their game to the next level. They've all looked good at times, but none of them have been able to keep a high level of play up for a season.

I would like to see the Suns win, because their style of play could change the game, but I just don't see it.

The Mavs are probably the favorite, and they should be. They just need to play defense like they did last year, and not like they did every year before that.

I'm sure Stern would love to see Lebron holding the Trophy, and I think he's got as much talent as anyone in the league. The only problem is that the rest of the guys on the court don't.

The team that will make the biggest improvement will be the Magic.

Anyone else won't win it, including the Lakers.

with 16 different player movements, there is no way that this year's team is the same as last. hopefully we'll make playoffs.

Of course I'm hoping my Suns win it all this year. It always seems the injury situation is how they go down in flames in the playoffs. Plus they're extremely fun to watch. I'd love for my Suns to just get to the finals this year :D

Haha, there's no way Jordan Farmer is a steal, he's just another good for nothing Andrew Bynum to fill another spot on the Laker's bench. Bulls should be fun to watch in the east. I can't see Miami repeating. Detroit won't fall apart, I predict a 3rd/4th place finish in the East. New York should be intresting....Marbury, Francis, Curry, Crawford, Frye, Rose, Richardson, enough said. Oh yeah and Adam Morrison will, beyond doubt, get Rookie Of The Year.

The Suns will be an interesting team to watch this year. It remains to be seen how well he can come back from that injury and how he'll affect chemistry in what may be a crowded area under the basket.

It's too tough to pick between the Mavs and Spurs as both are returning essentially the same teams this year with only a few role players changing. Being a homer I'll pick the Mavs out of the West because their younger guys (namely Howard, Harris, and Diop) will have had an extra year to develop.

In the East I'll say the Heat until proven otherwise. Everyone is getting old except Wade, but if they don't forget whatever they found to make them click in the playoffs then their hard to stop.

Good to see everyone doubting the Pistons once again. Back under the radar :) ... I'm not saying they'll win the championship this year, but they are a lot stronger than everyone will give them credit for. They lost a great defensive center in Ben Wallace, but gained a pretty good offensive one in Nazr. And McDyess played extremely well for us last year when he got to play 25+ minutes a game, hopefully he'll be closing games out for us this year.

It's a little overboard to say Nazr is pretty good offensively? He's led the team in scoring in at least 2 of their preseason games, with 16 and 20 points respectively. That's not too shabby. And he can shoot free throws.

Comparing his skillset to Ben Wallace is nearly impossible, they are completely different centers. Ben's rebounding and helpside D >>> Nazr

Nazr's offensive skillset and free throw shooting >>> Ben

the only problem is Nazr's offense isn't that great either way u look at it. He play SOLID D, and has an offensive game that, although better than Big Bens, Still is only good. He's a more complete player, but they lost the enforcer in the middle of the lane.

reguarldess, here are my 3 sleeper teams on the year, teams that could shock people.
Celtics - young, led mby peirce if they gel and come together they could shock some people
Bucks - if they stay healthy they could make a playoff push.
76ers - See celtics replace Perice wih Iverson(who is trying to playu bette defense this year)

Well, take a look at their line up...

Jamal Crawford
Eddy Curry
Steve Francis
Channing Frye
Stephon Marbury
Quentin Richardson
Jalen Rose

Alot of those guys were/are/will be all-stars. They have shitty team chemistry though. Too many all-stars on one team isn't always good, they always want to do their own thing and be the hero, that's why team USA has been going downhill over the past couple of years, too many all-stars.

And Farmar isn't a good enough of an offensive player to be a solid rookie. He may be able to give the Lakers some defense though.

Calling it a "mild surprise" on my part was actually a compliment. NBA.com called it a big surprise, implying that it was expected that the Lakers were going to lose pretty bad. That is how it looked after the first quarter. Lamar Odom is a very good player and Andrew Bynum looks like he might become a very dominant player, ala Shaq. He has a huge body and good talent and is still very young. I still don't expect the Lakers to go very far in the playoffs, if they indeed do make it. There are too many solid squads in the West. Off the top of my head, I would pick the Spurs, Maverics, Rockets, Suns, Clippers, Nuggets and Jazz making the playoffs over the Lakers. That would leave the Lakers fighting for an 8th seed with the rest of the West (not easy). It's not that I hate the Lakers as a franchise, just don't like them because of Kobe and Jackson. I don't like the Pacer and Heat either, because of some of their players.

Yeah I know but it seemed too little of a compliment for such a good game, I'm the kind of fan that gives props, I can picture hating the Lakers and still what a great game. I have to say all those teams making it to the playoffs rather than the Lakers, wow. I hope that you really believe so because it bothers me to see fans who hate teams to the point of ignorance. Lakers put on a solid performance even without Kobe, suprised to see them come out on top against Phoenix. Utah Jazz are playing very well. They got one of the best front courts in the NBA (Boozer, Okur and Kirilenko) and a young (but talented) back court. If they remain healthy (always a chance of injury with CB and AK), they will surprise some teams in the West. The Lakers are off to good start as well with 3-0 record.

They are really impressive so far, but as I said before, they need to remain healthy. They are a deep team, but an injury to anyone of their top 4 (D. Williams, C. Boozer, A. Kirilenko and M. I don't know if there is a way to compare it to last year, but it seems like scoring in the NBA is alot higher this year so far. There are 8 teams averaging more than 100 points per game, a total of 13 (including the previous mentioned 8) that are averaging over 99 per game. I bring it up, because there was a lot of talk about the new regulation balls. I might be completely wrong and scoring might be down, but it seems like the opposite is occuring.

The east sucks, the Lakers are tied with the Cavs who have the best record in the east, people talking about how Cavs might go all the way when they aren't that good, i think many teams in west are better than the Cavs and many of those teams get laughed at when someone questions their ability to go all the way. :rollseyes :blahblah:

Isiah couldn't even take a GOOD team out of the first round of the playoffs so he has no chance with this one. Even if the Knicks make the playoffs it could only make things worse, because the owner might actually think they're making progress and NOT can Isiah. If I were a Knicks fan I certainly wouldn't be hoping to make the playoffs.

They're looking more and more like the team to beat this year with Howard and Harris continuously improving. The Mavs are red hot. Harris added another dimension to his game this year by improving his off-hand dribble. Did you see the crossover he used in the Utah game that lead to the two handed monster dunk over AK-47? That play made my pants get tight. Harris is so quick. He makes Tony Parker look slow. If he continues to improve, he'll be an All-Star within a couple of years.

And speaking of All-Stars, Josh Howard is creating buzz around the league. Columnists around the nation are calling his name to be on this year's roster, and with good reason. He's dominating stats with consistency. Dallas fans should see two Mavs in Vegas this year, accompanying Avry as coach.

Damn it. This just proves my theory that Manu is the dirtiest player in the NBA. Seriously, there is no other player in the league that has the potential to cause injury to other players, except for Dikembe Mutombo and his elbows, and Ron Artest and his fists.

It's sickening. Amare clearly goes up for the block and Manu his sticks his knee out and gets him in the nuts. What a fag. He needs to be officiated more closely. I remember in the Finals 2 years ago when he kneed Tayshaun Prince in the leg, also, he broke someone else's (Leandro Barbosa I think) foot. He is a dirty player, there is no disputing it.

Oh you are talking about when Joe Johnson went up for the dunk on the fastbreak, and Jerry Stackhouse (for the Mavericks) went to block it and Joe went crashing to the floor and broke his face. That was mostly Joe's fault, and that incident had no malicious intent.

I didn't even realize that had happened to Raja Bell though. Anyone who tries to argue that Manu is a legitimate player is a retard. I'll admit, he's an amazing player, when he isn't leaving a wake of destruction behind him when he's running around the court. But harming other players overshadows all of that.

Nets are doing pretty awful for their standards now but I think they'll probably make a push to win the division this year, but they'll probably lose in the 1st round.

I think Toronto is probably going to take over the dominance of the Atlantic Division starting next season, they have a lot of rising talent with players like Jose Calderon, Anthony Parker, TJ Ford, Morris Petersen, and of course Bargnani. And they have the best power forward in the eastern conference right now (Bosh). Nets are getting old and Carter might be heading out after this season anyway. :wah:

What they need is a big man. Sweetney is out of shape and PJ is just old, plus Wallace has hurt them at the Center position more than anything this year. They need a guy like Gasol; tough D with solid offense. They have enough talent and money to make a trade of this calibur.

I'm also happy to report that the Suns lost tonight, this time to Hawks. This will give the Mavs some breathing room for the best record going into the All-Star break. I realize that everyone says Dallas and Phoenix are above everyone else, but when the Suns are 3-7 against the best teams in the West, there's a problem. Yeah, yeah, I know the playoffs are a different story...

Couldn't have said it better myself. When it comes to big men, the Bulls are stacked defensively. But when it comes to offense, I don't think you can find a more deficient set of bigs anywhere else in the league. They need to keep Wallace and then try to pick up someone like Gasol, a low post scoring threat, because in the playoffs, they will need someone down there on the block.

The announcers actually mentioned how Pau would have an impact if he were traded to the Bulls during the Phoenix v Bulls game yesterday (which was a great game), but I can't find any juicy information about it. Here's one trade situation that's possible
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=99~2456~2175~130~996&teams=29~29~29~4~4
Also, I think that the Bulls would probably have to give up a first round draft pick. However, when you think of this lineup, Hinrich/Gordon/Deng/Gasol/Wallace, it doesn't sound too bad.

they have to go through the suns, the spurs, possibley both, and even some of the weaker teams are still tough. Rockets (if healthy) Nuggets, Lakers, hell even the clippers could become a threat again. West is way to close to declare a clear cut winner.

Not true as of now. Mavs and Suns have clearly put themselves ahead of the pack. Not to mention the Mavs have had a lot of playoff experience from the past seven years.

The Mavs proved they can beat the Spurs last year, something they had trouble doing the first half of the decade.

The great thing about the Mavs is they can play any style of basketball. They can push the ball, slow the tempo and play great defense, or do a comination of both. Just look at the Dallas/Houston game last week. Both teams struggled to score throughout the game, but the Mavs made the plays they needed to make down the stretch. A big part of a championship caliber team is overcoming adversity, and the Mavs have proven they can night in and night out. This goes along with their attitude, as Avery Johnson has stated time and time again that the playoffs are the only thing they care about, not winning games.

Yea, Livingston is fucked up bad. I feel sorry for him. All it took was a layup. Seeing that clip on ESPN seriously scared me out of playing basketball two days ago. Here is the clip. It's worst looking than McGahee's knee injury a couple years ago in college.

The Raps were an expansion team in 1995, and therefore both Toronto and Vancouver could not get a pick below #7. So they would not get any of those players for a while. Toronto had to give up the #1 pick that year. The NBA changed this when Charlotte got a new team though.

I'd also like to point out that Dirk indeed got fouled on the last shot of the game, even though there was a no call. Marion grabbed his jersey going up, and hit is knee going down. As one who watches every damn Mavs game, he gets a lot of no calls and it pisses me off.

No way they call a foul at the end of the game for hitting a knee on the way down, or even tuggin on a jersey on the way up. Anytime the ball got within 7 feet of the basket on either team there was contact and most of the time it wasn't called.

Lakers, even when healthy, didn't have what it takes to go far in the playoffs. In the beginning of the year, I thought they would drop out of the playoff race, but right now, their only worry is either the Clippers and Warriors, who have been playing very well as of late. The West has some very solid teams from 1-5, after that, I don't see any real contenders, possibly Denver, but they are very up and down. Lakers need a quality big man with Kobe to ever contend for a title again. Garnett is a free agent this year, but he will probably get a record contract.

I want them to get Oden, but what position does he play?

You want him, but you don't even know what position he plays? Oden has been talked about as the prized draftee ever since he graduated high school. The guy is 7'0, 280 lbs. He is compared to the likes of David Robinson, Tim Duncan and Shaq. He is going to be the first overall draft pick, #2 will be Kevin Durant, who is also very very talented player. The way it looks as of now, Memphis has the best shot at the #1 pick and they currently have a big man in Pau Gasol, but this is his contract year, so they might not sign him and just take Oden. Boston would be next likely to get the pick and might take the best available player, even though they might need that player for his position. I know Garnett and Gasol and I believe another elite big man is going to be free agents this year, so Boston might go for a big man via free agency instead of the draft.

when they were healthy they were beating teams like Spurs, Mavs, Suns, Jazz FYI. i am well aware that we never had a chance to win it all but i was hoping that we could "improve" on last season by giving teams a hardtime in the playoffs and simply getting playoff experience but with the injuries and all, i don't think our chances of competing in the playoffs are good. :banghead: i would love to have KG, he's like favorite non-laker and has been for a long time...we just can't give up Odom for him..i doubt it'll happend but one can hope. and yes, i think we're going to have to be patient with Bynum, he'll make us a title contender one day i believe.

I think the Lakers are going to make the playoffs. The playoff experience and added games will help Bynum only, as most of the young players on the Lakers have playoff experience from last year. As for getting Garnett, if it would take giving up Odom, the Lakers would do that in an instant, I don't know why you wouldn't. Odom is not an elite player like KG is in the league. KG isn't going to come the Lakers via a trade, it would have to be via free agency and there are going to be a number of teams throwing big money at him. Minnesota could possibly attempt a sign and trade, but that would be unlikely as well.

lol yes I dont know what position he plays because I never watch college basketball. I barely watch the BC eagles. College sports just dont interest me too much. But I heard Danny Ainge will take Durant if he has the #1 pick. Most likely they will have the #2 pick. Because Memphis has the worst record right now, and will probably end up with #1. But that don't matter too much cause anyone could get it in the lottery.

I'm going to tonights game between the sucky bobcats and sucky celtics. Should be a good one lol.

Kobe just joined Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor, and Michael Jordan as the only players to have scored over 50 in three consecutive games.

What a great night in the NBA. First and foremost, the Raptors completely obliterate the Nuggets. The Nuggets missed their first 15 shots and trailed all the way through. Philly also won, and Orlando beat the Nets. The Spurs beat the Pistons by just one point. And Cleveland kept New York to only 68 points.

Did I mention that Kobe scored 50 for the fourth straight game?

Raptors vs. Wizards (http://sports.espn.go.com/broadband/ivp/index?id=2819892)

What a finish. After seeing Rasheed Wallace's desperation three to get the game to overtime, Morris Peterson of the Raptors does the same after one of the most boneheaded plays of the year.

Another Dallas loss, another angry day at work. I try and stay calm after a loss like these, and it's hard. I'd just like to say that if these two teams meet in the playoffs, this season series means nothing.

I wasn't actually as mad that they lost as I was with ABC. Everytime I watch an NBA game on ABC, I'm sickened. My biggest disgust was with the camera view. Almost half the game they kept switching to that shitty sideline view. Not only could I not see what was going on, on the court, but when it moved up the sideline, the camera man was shaking the damn thing. Secondly, who thought Mark Jackson would be a good commentator? I realize he knows the game well, but when you can't speak english, what the fuck are you doing commentating a game? Typical Jackson line, "Dat wuzz a good play ba Pheeeeonix, dey're exploitin' mismatches own offense." Third, the presentation sucks. What's up with that "RIGHT NOW!" shit? So ABC thinks of the NBA as a cheesy broadway play with cheap looking hookers? NBA on NBC was great because it made it dramatic and exciting with its signature song and guys like Marv Albert. Even TNT does a good job at presenting the NBA in an exciting way. I realize these issues may not concern a lot of people, but when you're someone like me that watches a lot of games, it matters.

i love TNT just cause the half time show is actually good with chuck, kenny, and ernie (i think that the white guys name)
and the games usually are presented well

Yeah to be honest I'm not expecting that much in the playoffs... if they win 1 series I'll be thrilled. You can't be breaking even (I think it was like 9-9) against the 5-6 worst teams and expect to have a good year.

I just had to post on this. They were a serious threat before those two huge injuries, and I'm actually mad because I was hoping for them to make a playoff run since the East is up for grabs. I must say that I don't like Arenas' cocky side, but damn is he good, and I respect that.

On a lighter side, here are some funny Chinese nicknames for NBA players.

Marcus Camby had 9 blocks tonight

candidate for DPOY?

JerkyMyTurky

After tonight's games, the Lakers are only a 1/2 game in front of both the Clippers and Warriors with both teams having a game in hand. There is a possibility for a 3 way tie between them. I'm not sure how the tie breakers will work, but the Lakers make it through and either of the other two teams fall out depending on if divisional record or conference record decides the tie breaker. If Lakers lose one out of the next two and Clippers and Warriors win out their games, Lakers fall out of the playoffs.

More than candidate, he's probably the front runner for the award this year. Bowen and Wallace also have an outside chance.
