Their drummer doesnt think so, despite only playing a few classics at the end of the set:

They made a good album. They want to play it live. Can you really be mad at a band for that?

Most of their fans have grown up with them. They want to hear the classics too. They sold the tickets before announcing the set list.

Yeah, it sucks that they didn't announce the setlist prior to selling tickets, but they are promoting their brand new album. Fans could have at least expected to hear a majority of it. It's not like it's a bad album. I would have definitely prefered to just have a few AMOLAD songs and mostly songs from thier first 7 albums. You can't please everyone.

Setlist should have been announced first.
But regardless, their new album is good - it's not as if seeing Maiden live could ever possibly be bad. ;)

Maiden made another CD. They had a concert. They play the songs off the CD.
I don't see anything wrong with that.Maiden = win \m/

That would be Mike Patton. Or to be more exact, that would be Mike Patton's fans crapping on Mike Patton. :p

Why should they not play whatever the hell they want? It's their music, their show, and their setlist. We should be happy that such a great band are still around making such excellent new music.
Besides, most of the classics have been done to death live. I'd much rather hear the entirety of the new album and a few select classics when I go see them in December than hear a few new songs and then a load of songs we've heard live a million times before (looking at YOU, Run To The Hills, Number of the Beast, Wrathchild, The Trooper.....)
EDIT: Oh, and the whole "They should have released the setlist before tickets going on sale" thing is bullshit. I've never been to a show where the setlist isannounced along with the dates, nor have I seen one advertised like that. And anyway, several band members have said on separate occasions that they were strongly considering playing the entire album live, so it's not like it was completely unexpected.

It's the bands decision what to play. They make the music, they get to play what they feel best represents themselves. It's all personal opinion too; people will like certain setlists, others won't.

Because they want fans left at the end of the tour? Like it or not, people go to Maiden to have a good time & hear the music they expect. Alot of people havent heard the new album.

If they had told fans in advance what they were goin to play, the majority of people wouldnt have bought tickets.

You think a bad setlist is going to lose Maiden fans?
These guys can sell out anything, anywhere guarenteed. 250,000 people show up to see them in Brazil. At one show.
This is a tour for this album. The last time they toured they just played songs off their first four album. Change of pace I guess.

They were playing a decent set of old & new in 2001. This is the 1st time they have ever done this in 30 years.

That's how any band would promote their new album, especially one which is so established on their past that it's hard for fans to accept their newer stuff (although, not in all cases).

Exactly. Its a change of pace for them and us.
Run to the Hills and Number of the Beast definately got old. I'm disappointed that Wrathchild and the Trooper won't be played but thats not going to stop me going, and I doubt it will anyone else. Unless they really hate the new album. And I don't think there's anyone that truely dislikes it, and if there is they probably wouldn't go to a Maiden concert regardless of the setlist.
Besides, they'll probably be doing an Early Days Part 2 tour in the not too distant future. That will definately be worth seeing.

Exactly - do you not think the band themselves get a bit sick of playing the same songs on every show of every tour for 30 years?
If they had told fans in advance what they were goin to play, the majority of people wouldnt have bought tickets.
As mentioned in the bit of my post you conveniently managed to cut out, they DID mention several times that there was a very good chance they would play the entire album on the tour.

Like i said in my post, people do not go to see a veteran band like Maiden to hear the new album in full.

Give us a source? Everyone i have spoke to was unaware of this plan. They did not advertise the tour as anything but a standard Maiden tour either in the poster.

I fill my mind up with liquor and drink away the pain.

Unfortunately, I can't find any of the specific interviews any more. I'm an active member of a Maiden forum and a hardcore fan, and that's where I recieved this information. I suppose it is partly fair to say that the average fan wouldn't really know much about the setlist in advance unless they had happened to see one of these interviews.
I stand by what i said beforehand though.

Quit bitching and go see an Iron Maiden cover band.
Or burn a cd with the exact songs you want. In order.
People go to Iron Maiden concerts to see Iron Maiden.
