Binary is a number system where you only have two values for each "decimal place" (decimal isn't technically the right term because it refers to our normal, "base 10" system). So to count from 0-5 normally you would have 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. To do the same in binary, you would have to add a new "decimal place" (it's actually called a "bit" in binary) and you'd get 0, 1, 10, 11, 100, 101.
