Could we make it some sort of unwritten rule here that when posting a new thread based on a news article, that the thread starter should copy/paste the article and provide the link, instead of the common link only post?

First of all, some sites require registration.

Second, add some substance to your post. Post the story, and maybe add a few thoughts of your own.

Third, it makes copying and pasting portions of the article much easier. It's all on one page, for all to see.

I think your second point is most important. It seems like many people just paste a huge ass article and write "that's crazy, what do you think?" which is pretty lame. Also, people linking an article or pasting another large one as a response is annoying as hell if they don't add to it...

At least post a portion of the article that explains the jist of it.
I'll try to remember and do it the next time I start a thread.

If someone discusses an article without posting it or a link to it, in a way he already loses some respect, but I don't think it should be a RULE exactly.

I agree. People should just do that out of common courtesy.
