Ok so I've been researching PSP and as I understand it to be able to play games from a memory stick you need a PSP firmware version 1.5, or another option is you can downgrade firmware version 2.71 to 1.5.

What exactly does the name homebrew mean?... is it just a term people use that identifies games downloaded off the net and not bought in store?

When you connect the PSP to your comp via USB doesn't it just automatically update the firmware?

Basically I'm planning on buying a PSP solely for playing games. So should I look for a 1.5? How big of an advantage is it to owning a 1.5?

Also, by running these "emulators" people speak of and other software is there a chance of damaging the firmware?... is it possible to restore if something happens?

what exactly does DEVHOOK do?

You shouldn't get one. But if you do, make sure you buy the game Lumines.

1.5 is the firmware if you want to play homebrew. Homebrew is when people make their own games that you can load off of the memory stick for free. If you get one do your best to get a 1.5. If you cant downgrading is an option but some dont work so make sure you have the right hardware. Homebrew can also be used to download and use commercial games illegally but i wont talk about that. For all the info you could ever need on psp just go to pspupdates.qj.net and go to the forums. They are very helpful there and there is numerous tutorials.

P.S. Lumines is boring IMHO
