I'm actually planning on camping for the PS3. I remember when PS2 came out and I got my hands on the last one at EB Games... oh man that that felt good. Spent like $500 on games alone that day. Anyways that was then this is now.
I've never camped overnight like im planning before. BTW I got the PS2 the next day... I was too young to camp. What are somethings i should bring?
I have school until 2:30, so I'm thinking i'll hit the local best-buy straight after... I want to be first in line. I'm debating whether or not to bring a tent... I already made plans with my sister to bring me tea and food in case I need it... although I think I'll keep the liquids to a minimum so i don't piss myself... can't leave my posts.
Any other suggestions?
IM PSYCHED! Metal Gear Solid 4 looks to be game to buy for the PS3.

Bring somebody eles to take your palce if you must leave. And try to make friends with the people next to you in case something happens like a fight.

I'm going to just go to a store in the evening and try to buy one. I know the chances of getting one that way are pretty much 0 but it's worth a shot.

hmm dont bring a tent. just bring a lawn chair and a thick ass blanket. and remember to dress warm. bring energy bars. Does anyone know the rules of camping out?? i heard you can only camp the day before the launch date. And do you guys think people will need to camp for the wii?

Ebay scalpers are a cruel reality, but also an opportunistic business practice. Since gaming is now mainstream, the gamers are getting crapped on by people who know how to exploit our greed.
Speaking of which, I would sell mine the instant I held one.

Wait till the spring for a price drop, better games, and less faulty systems.
Have fun being a beta tester for me :)

I'll be waiting till next year to buy one when the new Grand Theft Auto hits shelves, and by then the system will have been out for a while so maybe the prices will have dropped slightly.

Hahaha, nah... the prices for the PS3 won't drop for a while methinks. This is their opening year, next year is another round. You'll be looking at early 2009 for prices to drop, I bet. But still, I'd wait a year so I can stroll up, by one and leave. No camping, no reservations, nothing... just a simple buy.

Exactly, PS 1 & 2 both had crappy firmware & hardware when they launched, many people complained of software crashes, Laser burnouts, and other misc problems. I remember having to hold my PS1 upside down to get a few games to read at one point. Never the less, a few months later and 2 version updates; the PS1 & 2 ran flawless.
With that said, I'd wait, instead of wasting $600+ on a rushed system, that has an 80% chance of not working in a few months.
