I'm not talking about those stupid PS1 graphic looking things in the arcade, I'm talking about playing in a virtual world that also gives you sense of smell, force and temperature. Gamers would be put into a semi sleeping stage so your gaming time is like dreaming while asleep. Electros are attached to your brain to work like a "wired controller" and the media console loads the "environment" and you're instantly "in the game." Sounds like The Matrix but damn my idea is awesome.

God forbid we play a game where there is a stage at a sewage plant or inside someone's rectum.

You mean some kind of device that reduces one to a semi comatose state while they partake of adventures designed to entertain and excite?
You ever watch a gamer play?

the way you described it, it sounds like it could put people into comas, cause frequent seizures, eye strain, headaches...who knows what else.
if someone could perfect it, that'd kick ass, but i just dont see it happening

Yeah I can't wait until some good virtual reality. I don't care too much about smell and taste or whatever, but sounds and movement being exactly what you want would be so fucking cool.

I'd be perfectly happy with a sort of helmet you could wear. Two wide view screens so it would cover your entire vision (peripheal sp? vision could even include lower resolutions and lower poly models to save on CPU load), 3d fully directional sound. I don't really need smells... A sensor to determine which way you're facing (ala wiimote), turn your head, your view in game shifts. The technology would be more than possible today.
Other things could be included. Controllers specific to the games. A gun could also have a sensor that works with the helmet to tell which way you're aiming (no more crosshair centered on screen, you could fire shots behind you if you want). And something to determine movement, i've got a few ideas, but none too practical.
Now the price for something like this would be astronomical. A few things could be done to cut back on that. One big thing that could be done, you could simply work backwards with the computing technology, but games would have to be very specifically designed for our console than (of course, we already see this with the Wii being done). Second, they could reduce the price on the console a bit, but make the price on the games a bit higher, in the long run consumers would spend more, but the console would be more reasonably priced. You get the basic gist.
When you think about it, it's all quite possible. It's just that the prices involved would limit the audience that would be interested. Figuring out various ways to cut down the prices would be key for attracting customers.
Obviously, I've dreamed about this for years. =D

I don't know its a bit of a mind fuck to be honest. Just think how long ago was it when pong came out? Now look what we have massively multiplayer games with graphics upto the nuts but then again we could of reeched the peak of technology. I would love it to be like a virtual world. I was thinking other day how cool would it to have online fighting arenas where you could kick the shit out of each other :D

Like the Matrix, this virtual reality would need direct access to your brain. In many years we may completely figure out how the brain functions and how to unlock its powers. We will be able to trigger certain feelings or images, to sense things as if they actually were happening, to actually be in the game. It's a long way away, but it is theoretically possible to trick the brain into virtual reality. Hell, we might just be living in those liquid-filled tubes to preserve ourselves for hundreds of years.
I couldn't imagine the glitches, though...
- What happened to Joe?
- He was playing his Xbox 518400 and it gave the three red lights. He's now in a coma repeating the error message.
- Fuck, man!
