That and more Sony news...

Strike two for Sony.

First they railed on Microsoft for having two versions of the system that "confused buyers" then went and did the same thing with two versions of the PS3. Sony then busted on Microsofts BC content for being "limited" claiming gamers will be able to play every PSX and PS2 game on the PS3. Well guess what? You might be able to play every game but that does'nt mean they have to work right now does it? How does freezing up or playing without any sound tickle your fancy? A list compiled by the puplishers of Japanese weekly Famitsu includes 162 BC games that have issues when playing.

Sony Japans offical response is that updates will fix the issues and till then gamers can just play without sound. BOOOO! It's responses like that that really make me dislike Sony at times.

Basically what MS did was release the BC games as they were ready, Sony just released them all (busted one n all) and plans on "fixing" them later.

Eh, that's pretty minor. There are always expected problems with backwards compatibility. They created an emulator for the PS3, and it doesn't run all games 100%. The fact that it runs the graphics but not the sound on some games means that the emulator needs patching. That's perfectly normal and acceptible.

Edit:

Ah, and the XBox simply didn't have as good of an emulator. Instead of having one program that could read games from the previous gen's console, they had to add support for games individually. That's sloppy.

Quick FYI, I personally hate Sony and the PS. But your post was irrelevant, and as such (seeing how I'm a complete dick), I had to shoot it down.

tbh if I got my hands on a Playstation 3, then id have other priorities on my mind than playing old games.

Same with Xbox 360, so what if the old games dont all work, if u wanted to play the old games u would have bought a xbox, and saved 200 bucks.

The difference between the Xbox360 and PS3 emulators is that the PS3 doesn't use an emulator. They actually put a PS2 chipset inside of the PS3, and the problems with playing older games comes from the not-so-almighty Cell processor inside it. No patch or software upgrade is going to make it any better. But it's not so bad, Sony believes that gamers can live without sound on some games. It's more of a feature, too, like the faulty square button on the PSP, or spyware that came with their walkman mp3 players. Sony quality just simply can't be beat.

Also, the Xbox360 and Wii are the only 2 consoles that have emulators built into them. The Xbox360 has to emulate Xbox games, since they went from having an Intel processor and Nvidia GPU in the Xbox to having an IBM processor and ATI(AMD) GPU inside the Xbox360. Software upgrades are the key to backward compatibility for the Xbox360. It's no different from the Wii's backward compatibility.

agreed backward's compatability isn't the world, though it's nice to play some old classics, but i don't care about barbie horse adventure.

I didn't know they actually included a PS2 chip for the backwards play, but I'm pretty sure they've said the problem could be patched.

After actually reading the article though, I agree, sounds like typical Sony customer support. "Oh, you say your PS3 isn't doing what you expected? Well a customer 'service' representitive named Bubba will be there shortly to 'serve' our customer. And by that, I mean he's going to assrape you."

I admit it, I assumed that Sony might actually clean there act up a bit. I was wrong. But, of course, the fans will continue exalting them. Meh.

Their fanbase isn't really as large as it once was. It took them 2 days to sale the 88,000 PS3s they released in Japan, which sounds like a lot, but really it isn't. And to make matters worse, a couple thousand of those PS3s went onto online auctions(to make a profit) and some were sold for less than what was paid for them, just so the person could get rid of it, and at least get some of the money back.

And I just thought MY psp had the square button problem... not all of em....Just so you know, the square button problem comes from the fact that the PS3 has such a large screen, and it was too much of a pain for Sony to move the buttons 1/2cm to the right. The sensor for the square button is placed a little too far to the right to make room for the large screen, so it should work if you put more pressure on the right side of that button.

Do you have a response for people experiencing backwards compatibility issues and/or television upscaling problems?

I would like my car to fly and make me breakfast, but that's an unrealistic expectation. We've reported problems on only 200 of the 8000 PlayStation 1 and 2 games. I would challenge the average consumer to say that there are significant problems with any of the games in their library.

If you look at our competitors, one machine has zero backwards compatibility and one only has it with a third of their games. [Actually, the Wii is backwards compatible with the full GameCube library. - CK]

He admits that he was taking notes on word, so the phrases aren't exact quotes, but that's a fairly snide response regardless of how it's paraphrased.
