My 12 year old brother just came home with one a few hours ago.
Bought it himself. Good for him. :)

Im glad Nintendo still remains a system for the younger generations of gamers and keep it at a reasonable price...Its cool that even 12 year olds can even fork out the cash to buy a Next-Gen console....

Well he's a millionaire, so he could afford it regardless of what it costs.
My take is though, Nintendo is, and always has been a producer of genuinely fun games and game systems. Games you can really enjoy playing. I mean, I enjoy xbox, and PS games and such. The final fantasy series, halo series, etc. They are good times, but when you think back to games like smash bros. and mario kart, those are just fucking fun to play. Nintendo is thought of as the underdog, but usually everything they put out is successful. It just appeals to a younger generation.
I'll admit though, I still play NES quite regularly.

well, i said long story because I don't wanna type it all, so long story short...during his pregnancy, the doctor was aware he would have difficulties after birth. They said that he would be healthy, and not to worry (he's adopted by the way) so the mother carried on with the pregnancy. Out comes the baby, has issues with his heart and a boat load of other things, and a lawyer on his behalf sues the doctor for "playing god" and sues the hospital as well. Gets a large settlement. Gets a couple fundraisers in his name and so on, and in the end he has millions of dollars.

does he need another big brother?
DarcSystems
11-19-2006, 10:24 AM
nope, but you can have him if you want. I don't get to touch the money. My mother has full control of it till he's 18, but she won't touch the money. The only person who benefits is him. Anything he wants to spend it on now, he writes up on a list, and his financial adviser tells him if it's a good idea or a bad idea, and my mother then takes the money out, and buys it for him.
Hectic
11-19-2006, 10:27 AM
so why would you be proud of him for buying it himself? did you mean he broke the rules and withdrew the money himself without speaking to the financial advisor or something? your story sounds more like something i'd hear from a compulsive liar.

Because it's not every day you see a 12 year old spending hundreds of dollars of his own money. And the me being proud of him thing was sarcasm, as I really don't like him that much, but he is pretty happy that he got it so good for him.
His name is Corey Cahill so do some googling if you feel the need to find information on him. I'm sure you can come up with something.
If I were your mom, I would take all the interest until he's 18 and 'just' leave him with the million.
My mother is an honest hardworking woman, who works her job (at times two) to help my step father with the bills. She doesn't want my brothers money.

Understandably, I have trouble believing the story, as it sounds pretty fantastic.
But if it's true, that's friggin awesome of your mother. Tell her that someone out there has genuine respect for her. That right there is a model to grow up to be like.
And back to the Wii:
My take is though, Nintendo is, and always has been a producer of genuinely fun games and game systems.
So true. There's been some really great games out there on some other systems. Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, for example... fantastic game, but almost no replayability.
I find that with all the consoles I've owned, the Nintendo was the one I went back to most when I just wanted something fun to play.
I guess it just depends on what sells games for you.

i guess it is a pretty unbelievable story, but this kind of stuff happens more often then you think. He goes to this camp in Great Barrington, MA, called Open Hearts Camp. I was surprised at the amount of young people with heart conditions who have very similar stories.
I'll snag a picture of all of his scars maybe. He's had literally hundreds of surgeries since he was born. 3 major open heart surgeries before he was 3 years old and I think 5 total, with one more to go. He was born without an esauphagus, so he couldn't eat food until he was about 6 or 7. They just fed him with a G-tube, and any fluids that he drank came out a hole in his neck (sounds gross, and it was). His biggest problem right now is that he's unable to absorb fat or something like that. He's really skinny. He's got bad arthritis and other painful things like stomach ulcers due to all his medications. It all sounds a little worse than it is, but he's gone through some tough times.
I'll think about the picture though. I don't want it to be exploited on the net or turned into another "owned" picture. It's pretty shocking for some people when he takes his shirt off.

Way to completely ruin a hardworking honest doctors life. They cant be 100% right the whole god dam time.
Shall we sue a bus driver whenever he is late?
Shall we sue a teacher when he makes a mistake teaching?
But still its nice to know this guy or his mother feels that this life is worth living by ripping off some poor doctor.
Bah, his case might be different i dunno, just hate how selfish people are that they feel the need to fix all their problems with money and ripping off someone else.
DarcSystems
11-19-2006, 11:51 AM
Well it wasn't my mother who sued. The doctor committed a crime. He knew full well that there would be birth defects and said nothing. He pleaded guilty against the charges and paid out. No one ruined his life, he made the wrong choices to avoid the mother aborting the pregnancy (i think that was the case). That's highly illegal and the person who suffers most is my brother, so why shouldn't he get a settlement?

How about accepting an apology.
DarcSystems
11-19-2006, 12:12 PM
That's a pretty big issue to just say "sorry 'bout that" to. It's like killing an innocent man, following up with "oops, my B". An apology doesn't exactly make up for a lifetime of pain, being in and out of the hospital, having your birth mother give you up because she didn't want to deal with your medical problems.
I tell you though, money sure does cushion the blow. ;)
If it helps, I used to get tortured by a manager Named Mike Cahill back in the day.
But sometimes money doesn't equal a good life. Hopefully the kid does something worthwhile.
And just to stay on topic, I ordered my little bro a Wii, it should be there at my moms place this morning.

I want a Nintendo Wii. For some reason, it seems like people are only literally killing eachother over the PS3. I don't wanna die when I walk out of church(Best Buy).
Not only do I want a Wii so I can live, it ust looks way better. I mean, COD3.. aim with the motion controller, its just like duck hunt, except without the little dog laughing at you when you miss, and you can just punch and hit the guy with the butt of the gun. How fucking cool is that!

he's far from lucky. Wasn't supposed to live past 3 months old. Beat the odds though. I don't think he'll ever live a full life though. There's going to be a lot of complications when he gets older. He's already had one big issue because they had to use a piece of his colon to build an esophagus for him, and the colon grows at a faster rate than other organs, so it buckled on him sometime last year and almost killed him. He was in ICU for over a week and a half, and in the hospital for almost 3 weeks during it. That's just a taste of what's to come in later years. But like I said, the inability to absorb the correct fats is his biggest problem right now.
Anyway, I can make a thread about it later if anyone is interested. I should stop hijacking this one.

First Impressions:
Friend of mine decided to waste his saturday sitting outside Wal-mart the entire time. Got his Wii around 12:30 and called me to come over. I came over around 1:00, and got their in time to try out some Wii Sports. The first thing I noticed was the console. Damn that thing was tiny! The controller does make it fun, but at the same time makes you feel pretty silly. Their is a sensor bar that was set up on top of his T.V.
Most motions with the controller seemed more like "Move this much this way, and this happens" instead of it being fluid. Graphics were horrible, but this wasn't a game that was susposed to test the Wii's power at all. For playing it seems like you have to find a way for the sensor bar to be right infront of you and at upper chest level, or you'll have to bend to play it right. So after playing some baseball and alot of boxing, we decided to throw in some Zelda. Started it up and immediately I thought "Wow, this game looks like a first-wave Ps2 game". I never got to playtest Zelda, and just watched my friend play it. You move this wisp around the screen by moving the controller (which makes this beeping noise with every fraction of its movement... which gets really old to hear), and use the wisp to target people/objects.
What I was pleasantly surprised with was that the games available didn't use much of the buttons on the remote, and left alot of it for you to enjoy with the motion sensing.
From what I got of the experience, the Wii feels like Gamecube V1.5. They threw the motion controller in there, but seemed to give nearly the same GC hardware a new look. I could see it being better with Super mario/Super smash... but really it just seems like it's going to have another GC turnout. They slapped on a Xbox Live lookalike online system and called it a new console. Who knows how much better they could have done with some better hardware... but for now it seems like eventually people will get tired of the last-gen graphics (You can say gameplay over graphics all you want, but thats not a majority opinion... and nintendo will suffer from it) and move on to one of the other consoles.
Overall I'd say it's an alright nice system for how cheap it was.

My friend go the Wii and asked me to come over to his house. So I did. I was watching him and his brother playing Wii sports and after that I was playing against his brother. I was able to beat him in golf but he was kicking my ass in bowling. It was kinda difficult at first to play but you got the hang of it. After that we played Tony Hawk and it was hard to get used to turing the wii mote to turn. But again it got eaiser
After that we played Zelda and I had to help him catch the fish because he couldn't do it.
The Wii is a good console but it will be hard to get used it you care too much about graphics.

Meh, I tried every place online and around my local area. No luck anywhere! My walmart only had 22 units, I got their at midnight and there was no lines. The clerk said they already sold out. I thought to myself that wal mart must have sold them the day before launch day. Tried other places as well.
I really want a Wii or at least a new console. I might just buy a 360.

I lined up for 4 hours today and got a Wii. I purchased COD3 and I just had a go on it. At first the Wii is kinda tricky to get used to, but I'll get the hang of it sooner or later. I am quite impressed by the graphics of COD3 (obviously not as good as Xbox360 or PS3) and I think it may be a small step up from Xbox and PS2.
The only thing that I'm not to keen on is the homepage thing. It isn't bad, but it's a little too childish for me. (I know this is a system for all ages)
Overall I am loving the Wii and it has been a great purchase, I give it a 9/10 :D
Edit: Also I played Wii Sports. It's ok, graphics are crap but it's still somewhat fun for a free game lol. I'm still trying to get used to it as well.

I origionally had mine pre-ordered at FYE. But they fucked me over and said 3 days before launch "we're not getting enough"

The Wii is incredibly fucking lame;
Virtual console:
Why pay to download games we've been able to download for free on our comptuers for about 10 years, now?
The Controller:
A TV remote. Not only that, but it doesn't even work all that great, where Iwata-san said e wants to release a firmware upgrade to try to make it less sluggish. Nigga'please.
The hardware:
It seems like all Nintendo cares about is the controller, and nothing else since the systems GPU, CPU etc etc were added in as merely an afterthought. Sure, it's only 250 dollars but you get what you pay for sometimes.
People say "Well the graphics on the NES didn't matter!!" Well you know what? the graphics on the NES were revolutionary at the time, since we were used to vector graphics and playing as blocks on the Atari. Not only that, but the 2D sprites are now acknolwedged as an art style. Do you think blocky, lazy 128-bit graphics will ever be considered a desireable art style?
Case in point: Go back and play Mortal Kombat 4, and try to tell me it's better than Mortal Kombat II. It's a well known fact that 3D graphics age ALOT more than 2D graphics will. In case you forgot, we use 3D graphics now, not 2D. Beign outdated isn't acceptable.

You won't have nearly the amount of games as you would available through Wii points. Besides, alot of people would rather play their games through a console on a HDTV. Personal preference doesn't make a console "lame".
The Controller:
A TV remote. Not only that, but it doesn't even work all that great, where Iwata-san said e wants to release a firmware upgrade to try to make it less sluggish. Nigga'please.
Don't like the remote? Use a damn GameCube controller, that's what the ports on the Wii console are for.
The hardware:

No, actually they care about one other thing - the gameplay. Graphics don't make a game good.
People say "Well the graphics on the NES didn't matter!!" Graphics on the NES STILL don't matter. If graphics mattered, why the fuck do people still talk up NES and still play it as faithfully as the day it came out? Because it's fun as hell, just like the Wii.
You're comparing 2D with 3D, which is not the same as comparing these next gen consoles since they're ALL 3D. There's very little NOTICABLE difference in the graphics. Seriously, go play Zelda or Mario or Metroid and tell me you aren't having fun.
BTW, why the fuck do you think Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is still considered the best Zelda game of all time? It sure as hell isn't the shitty N64 graphics. Why do you think that there was such a high demand for the older Zelda games that Nintendo re-released them for the GameCube? It sure as hell wasn't for the graphics.

its an incredibly bad speaker. instead of some important sounds like swords or whatever playing on your tv, it comes out the controller and sounds like shit.
the quality of the speaker isnt that great, but you dont really notice it unless you're just watching somebody else playing...while playing zelda it actually adds a nice element to the game.
i was really skeptical about the speaker at first, seemed pointless, kinda trinkety...but i was really pleasently surprised...running around hyrul and hearing that "thwak" while i fire off my slingshot, and other accesories is actually really cool, and i've grown quite fond of it
all i have to say, is people who are knocking the wii for whatever reason, clearly havent sat down and had some one on one time with it, because its really fun
i get the feeling that as more and more games come out, developers will become more and more creative with ways to use the wii remote, and there'll be some really awesome ideas, its fun already and this is just the beginning

2d fighting games like mortal kombat and street fighter are more fun than any 3d fighting game could ever be. (except POSSIBLY the original dreamcast soul caliber)

You won't have nearly the amount of games as you would available through Wii points. Besides, alot of people would rather play their games through a console on a HDTV. Personal preference doesn't make a console "lame".
Don't like the remote? Use a damn GameCube controller, that's what the ports on the Wii console are for.
No, actually they care about one other thing - the gameplay. Graphics don't make a game good.
Graphics on the NES STILL don't matter. If graphics mattered, why the fuck do people still talk up NES and still play it as faithfully as the day it came out? Because it's fun as hell, just like the Wii.
It sure as hell wasn't for the graphics.
just add a biatch and you're golden.

Kledster: I like playing DoA 3... it's pretty bad ass. Really I love just about any of the fighter games as long as it isn't super fast paced to where a button smasher can beat a veteran...

Couldn't agree more, and so do I. Played Contra last night in fact.

Yeah, I'm in a smalltown place where people are like "man I really want a Wii" but they are lazy bitches who don't stand in line. I think about 3/4 of the people that actually received wii's that night werent even from this town...
They were Ebayers.
To bad the priced droped before midnight wiiers could sell them.
But yeah, the wiimote is great, also it's nice to be able to stretch my hands as I play...not confined to 2 inches between them. I'm waiting on my USB connector so i can take it online.

i love it, i have been playing zelda almost nonstop, and wii sports is surprisingly very fun, i cant wait to try some more stuff out, i was a lil skeptical, but i think nintendo did very good with this system, so give it a shot before you start bashing it

Seeing as how Zelda:TP for Wii is nearly a straight port of the GC Zelda:TP (the graphics are nearly identical), it's not a good choice to base the ability of the system off of. The power of the Wii is equivalent to the original Xbox, so you can expect to see much prettier games in the future.

Sorry..but I just have to point this out. It's a double grammer mistake that is just making me giggle. You ended that sentance in a preposition, which is tolerable, but also you put 'off of' like for instance, "Will you take that off of the table" <-- this is incorrect. "Will you take that off the table" Is correct. Sorry, I've played Zelda for six hours and now im just a happy tired douche.
