First album I ever bought was the CD by Dr. Dre "2001".
I remember getting it at Circuit City a few days after it came out. I don't know exactly why I choose that CD, I wasn't really even into music. But it owned. (doesn't own as much now as it did then)

I bet I'm the only one here whose first albums were actually vinyl "albums".
The first album I bought was Devo's New Traditionalists (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Newtraditionalists.jpg) album when I was 8 years old with money my grandmother gave me at the store. I remember listening to Love without Anger (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UL3y7f6TbOg) over and over again while roller skating around my garage. Still a great album and I get chills when I hear anything from it because it was my first foray into music and it was so experimental.
My second album was Van Halen's 1984 about a year later, maybe in 1985. I also had a crapload of singles, like Chaka Khan, Funkytown, and Pac Man Fever. :D

And you would lose that bet, sir.
The first album that I actually bought on my own, with my own money, was Blondie's "Eat to the Beat" (I had a major thing for Debbie Harry back then, but then so did everybody my age, so that's nothing new). I bought the single for "Atomic" which was on that album too.

I distinctly remember buying Californication not too long after it came out. I'm sure I bought something before that, but that is the one that stands out in my mind.

On my 8th birthday, I got my first CD player and my first CD was Boyz 2 Men: Number 2 or whatever it was called. I don't even listen to that kind of music anymore but I still get nostalgic when I hear any of the songs from it. My second CD was the Top Gun soundtrack, followed by Smash(still one of my favorite CD's to this day).
