Good news for the fans.
Sony said it expects to ship 1.1 million of the next-generation consoles to North America by the end of the year.
Hopefully I'll be able to get one this year then.
By the end of 2006? Wow so all that craziness that went down on Nov 17, 2006 was stupid after all.

Well that dude who spent ten grand on a PS3 is probably rich enough to not give a damn.

this is for canada, and sony is full of shit, there aren't enough blue diodes for hd dvd or blu ray's, no way they could be pumping out that many.

blue diodes are what power the blue lasers that read HD-DVD and Blu Ray discs, however these diodes are in extremely short supply, so to be able to pump out that many ps3's sounds innacurate.

^ The reason Sony will be so damn far behind Ninty/MS. MS got it right with offering HD-DVD as an option, it's better for us and themselves...Sony'll have a long wait aswell because if MS want those Diodes first, Sony can't compete with the Money, seeing they are $357million in dept, aswell as whatever else they're losing with the PS3.

Last time I checked, Sony was up about $6,300,000,000; which is 63 Billion US dollars.
Sony has enough money to dump don't worry about money loss.

Actually, the article says 1.1 million by the end of 2006. Since they've all ready sold 800,000 on friday, they are only planning on shipping another 300,000 here before January. And 300,000 consoles really is not that big a shipment.
It's probably a little upsetting to Sony, because for each PS3 sold, they lose about $200-$300. With 1.1 million units sold, that's around $300 million dollars they'd lose before the end of the year that they would have to make up by selling tons of those wonderful launch titles. Nintendo, on the other hand, is making money, not losing money, from the Wii (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060915-7752.html). And last I heard, on U.S. launch day, they were supposed to ship 2 million of the consoles(5 times as many PS3s) and make money from them.

I dont think HD-DVD's use the blue diodes.
However yeah Microsoft where smart to limit the xbox360s hardware, i mean its cheaper and easier to make. However in the long run the ps3 is the one thats got everything in the box, and the xbox360 will have multiple boxes lieing around it.

That's why it's good for the 360 Consumer, They can play Games if they choose to and if they want the HD-DVD it'd optional, there'd be no rush to buy it so they can grab it when they feel neccessary(sp?).
And yes, it does use Blue Diodes.
