A Treatise on Fanboyism

I used to be annoyed by this all too common occurence: someone recklessly bashing all consoles but his own. What puzzled me, however, was why this behavior was rarely seen outside the realm of video game consoles. After some consideration, I now think that fanboyism should be welcomed, not shunned. It isn't simply some stupid activity that retarded 12-year-olds do, but rather a complex phenomenon almost completely restricted to video games and systems.

The nature of the business is what creates this phenomenon: the major console companies create units that one must own to play the games that go with that unit. Smaller companies compete for market share for each brand of console. This exclusivity has a strange effect: when one larger company loses market share in the market for consoles, less people own the basic unit, and all the smaller companies developing for that system lose money as well. They in turn have less to spend on production, leading to games with lower budgets. New developers are discouraged from entering the market for that console, and veteran developers are more inclined to abandon the system. This is exactly what happened with the Gamecube. Nintendo couldn't sell enough units, so the potential profit of a Gamecube developer was tiny compared to that of a developer for another system. A mass exodus of developers followed, leading to its essential death.

This is where fanboys come in. Someone who invests in a system obviously wants good games, and because the quality of the games is directly linked to the success of the console, as described above, he therefore wants the system to be as successful as possible. Doing anything he can to get other people to abandon alternate consoles and buy his console is only natural.

Moral of the story: Don't get mad at people when they say something stupid about your system. Don't yell at that wii60 guy when he says that the PS3 will kill your family and the CEO of sony will take a dump on your porch. Fanboys are people too; they just suck at marketing.

Anyway, I think Console Launches are like Sports, you root for whichever Console you support and say yours will beat others.

When a Console is in Trouble, instead of resorting to "Well, we have alot of injurys", they reply "Well, it's got the Games I want". It's something I noticed, when browsing Forums.

Not forgetting the Sony Fanboys, especially here, are the worst, anyone remember me posting Game news from E3-TGS? All Sony got was bad PR, problems and other Bullshit...I posted it to inform, all I got was:

But it can be said about all 3 Camps. If somebody Posts bullshit, counter it with a Fact, if they cry, ignore them...Or do the Basic formula:

The only thing that I don't like about fanboyism, is the hyprocracy involved in it. Example, I remember back when 360 came out, all the sony fanboys were making fun of people for standing outside, waiting, and camping for days, before the release...
Yet, when ps3 came out, none of them made fun of the people doing the same exact thing.

In my opinion.. fanboyism is just stupid. Were gamers, nothing more, nothing less. We shouldnt be fighting over which is the better system, or which games are better, we should just be sharing the experience that we have as a gaming community.

I actually belong in the Sega Camp...I stick up for the new kid on the Block, and actually own a 360, aswell as a Genesis, SNES, PS1, PS2, Xbox and Gamecube and I'm having my Wii Pre-Ordered next week.

I'd just like to point out that i think all the systems are pretty awsome.When people go out their way to completely bash a system to the ground it pisses me off, why? because those people are talking out their fucking assholes. Also extremely overhyping a game is pretty annoying and gay.

However to me the Playstation 3 strengths are the sort im looking for.

I mean hell the Wii mote looks pretty sweet, however im lazy and like the more violent games and nice graphics.

The xbox 360 has pretty nice graphics and quite a good game base starting up, however it lacks hardware functions that i need.


People like Wii60, seem hell bent on the fact that one of the systems is shit. He doesnt take any compromises, taking as many hits on it as possible and attacking anyone that trys to defend it.

Fanboys shouldnt be praised, for they loose all rational thought and destroy any chances of any compotition to arise.

A perfect example is the movie Equilibrium, when it came out some Matrix fan-boys started spouting shit that it was coping the matrix and thus spread rumors about it sucking, in effect killing the support it should have gotten at the cinema.

Fanboys are not good.

Found several different sources saying that the XBox 360 does in fact support keyboard for online chatting after about 5 minutes on google. You simply plug it into the front (through the controllers extension).

As of yet, there doesn't seem to be any support for a mouse though.

You know, I don't care if the console uses a holographic projector. If the games don't deliver, you've got a piece of crap console. And frankly, the PS3 simply doesn't deliver for the more hardcore gamers. Hardcore gamers that want to play online will get a PC. Hardcore gamers that enjoy single player games on consoles will go for the one that actually provides the gamers with an addictive sort of challenge.

The PS3 is fantastic for a casual gamer with too much money to spend. But they might want the XBox 360 more anyways because they may prefer MS's games.

And spout all of the technical nonsensical jargon you want, fact or fiction, I don't care. The PSP is simply more technologically advanced than the DS, but which one sells more? Which has more games? Which do people actually enjoy playing more?

I am defiantly a PS3 fan boy, I prefer it much more then the other consoles. The games, the controller and the whole system itself.

There are 2 kinds of fan boys, at least of what I have seen.

#1. The type who will actually own one particular system, but will still enjoy other systems very much. Even compliment other consoles.

#2. The type who will totally bag on other systems, say everything about the other systems is shit and that his/her console is the obvious winner. (So many of them on this forum!!)

I remember back in my school days when there was PS1 vs N64. This loser had a PS1 book and he found a picture of the N64 symbol in it and got angry, then ripped out that whole page and threw it away. Makes me angry how stupid some people are.

The main reason for buying a console is the games, and having fun. Wii, Xbox360 and PS3 have different games. Saying things like "price(PS3) < price(X360) + price(Wii), thus PS3 is cheaper" makes no sense.


PS3 = 500$
Amount of people having fun with PS3 in my home: 1 (me).
500/1 = 500$

Wii = 250$
Amount of people having fun with Wii in my home: 3 (me, dad, old sister, maybe mom)

I didn't say that; thanks for putting words in my mouth. But I'll clarify since I was typing too fast for you before.

I said that a casual gamer might get the 360, or might get the PS3. They might prefer the games out on the 360 over the ones on the PS3. They might prefer the opposite.

What I WAS claiming was that hardcore gamers are going to go for PC games over consoles for multiplayer. And if they like console games that are actually challenging, they might look look in a different direction than the PS3 since it's trying to focus more on multiplayer this generation. Let's face it, the single player portions of multiplayer games lack challenge. If you want a game that's really going to make your fingers blister, you'll go for something with a more arcade style gameplay.

Each new generation of console dumbs down the difficulty of games more and more. There's few companies out there that actually challenge you as a gamer to complete objectives. And, at the risk of sounding like a fanboy, Nintendo is the only one I really find releasing games like that. XBox's Ninja Gaiden was a real hit with me, because it was hard as hell. But I can't think of a single PS2 exclusive that really made me work hard to complete my goals, not saying there aren't any, just that I haven't seen or played one yet.

Now, I'm not saying the PS2 didn't have good games. There were definitely a some real gems on the system. But, personally, I prefer some difficulty when playing a game.

Today, Sony Japan at last got around to announcing official PS3 brand cables. Set for Japanese release on 11/22 is an official D-terminal cable. It will be followed on 12/7 by a composite AV cable, an S-video cable and a component AV cable. The composite cable will sell for 1,500 yen with the three other cables delivering double plus performance for double the price, 3,000 yen.

On Black Friday and the following two days Amazon.com Priced the Core 360 at $100. I didn't even know WTF Black Friday was till an American Friend sent me that link to the 360.

Black Friday is where they slash electronic prices to pracitaclly Zero, not to mention alot of 360 Merchandise was filling stores because MS had a shipment 11 days ago and Amazon.com was stuffed and had to move it. I've actually got a pic of the sale somewhere.
