I've been shopping around for oriental instruments, and I'm wondering if there is such a distortion pedal being produced that can warp a guitar's pitch high enough to recreate the soudns of some of these middle-eastern instruments.
I'm looking for a sound that replicates any of these:

The Buzuki

The Oud

The Saz

The Sitar

Any suggestions?

A distortion pedal isn't the right thing to use. I'd try an effect processor. Some have sitar modeling, but they tend to be expensive.

My guitar teacher can play the drums on his guitar...very well infact. He bursts into a 'drum' solo in the middle of one of his songs he wrote. Apparently the audience really do go WTF when they see him pratting around on the guitar neck like a loon.

His whole effects system cost about 2.5 grand tho. I have an effects pedal, its a multi-effects pedal and cost me 70quid. Has around 80 premade sounds and the ability to create endless combinations. For the price it aint gonna sound great but its what you can afford really. Best thing i can say is maybe go to the store with your guitar and try some out.
