so i bought the new 2 disc special edition and after watching it multiple times now, i've come to the conclusion that it is one of the best movies i've ever seen. definately the best war movie and definately one of the top 10 movies of all time. what do you guys think about it?

I always start watching it, but then I switch it off. I don't know why. I'm stuck at the part where he's jumping over the bed with a bloody hand.

I don't understand why they add the part where they find the French manor thing and have dinner there. It's pointless, and is like 30 minutes long. I don't like the redux because of that.

The original is an awesome movie though.

Yeah the French thing is pretty boring...

Top 10 war, not top 10 of all time.

Agreed. Coppola should have just left the Plantation scene on the cutting room floor. The Air Cav raid on the village is the best part.

The ending was incredible. The way they built up tension during the sacrifice scene was brilliant. I'd definitely put it in my top 10.

I liked Platoon a bit more than Apocalypse Now... but it was still a pretty good movie. Just so damn long heh.

But yeah, the ending scene with him coming out of the water and killing that guy was incredible.

Word, AN didn't hit me emotionally no where near Platoon did but AN was very powerful at times. In my opinion Platoon is the best Vietnam film ever made and maybe the greatest war movie I've ever seen.

This was a great movie. I was in the Cav in Iraq, and it's funny because the officers really do carry themselves in the manor depicted in the movie. As for war movies, Saving Private Ryan was better IMO but apocalypse is the best 'nam movie followed very closely by We Were Soldiers.

I thought it was good, but the Redux had some really boring parts in it. Great build-up to the end.

It is my third favorite Vietnam movie, behind Full Metal Jacket and Platoon.

There's definitely no wrong answer in ordering Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket and Platoon. It's really interesting to look at the similarities and differences in those films though, and think about why the creators chose to make them as they did. Three great pieces of art.
