Well I'm kind of bored and decided to download WoW and use my 10 day free trial. This'll be my first time playing the game even though I've thought about starting it up several times since it came out.

Anyone have some advice or comments that would help me?

I'm not gonna try it because I know I will get addicted. Save your social life and go buy guild wars.

It's not nearly as bad as most people say. It's only as addicting as you allow it to be. We've all heard the stories about people who've lost friends, jobs, spouses, and whatnot "because of the game," but I really don't see how anyone can blame that solely on World of Warcraft. In any of those cases, the blame should fall most heavily on the player and their personality. I think it's a little ironic that the gaming community that regularly has to undergo all of the criticisms about violent games turning youths into killers is so quick to blame WoW itself for ruining people's lives.
Now, I agree it does take a long, long time to get to level 60 (soon to be 70) or to get the best gear, but if that's all you're playing the game for, then it's pretty much pointless. All of it's still just pixels on a screen. But if you can get over the fact that you'll probably never be teh ub3rpwn3r and just play the game to have fun with it, it's a nice way to while away some time when you have nothing else to do.
It's still a little jarring when you type in the /played command and realize you've sunk over 70 hours into a character who's only at level 30, but just put it up against the amount of time you spend watching TV or talking to people you don't know on the internet and it's really not that big of a deal. I usually only play at night after I get back from my girlfriend's and I have nothing to do but watch television until I get tired. Just don't let it get the better of you.
A word of warning, though. When I first started, I logged a few eight-hour shifts into the game on my days off, but I saw what was happening and walked away from it for a while. As long as you can exercise some semblance of self-control, you shouldn't have a problem.

A few tips if you decide to pick it up.
- Find a friend who already plays or convince one of your friends to play too. It'll be more fun if you have someone to play and compete with. Just make sure you give them the same speech I gave you.
- PvP is so much more fun than PvE. Except if you're the one getting killed.
- Roll a rogue. They're badass.

Don't roll warrior , my class currently nerfed right now, I can't kill anybody.

I tried to play the free demo but my computer sucks too much balls. I played up to level 10 with some lag that I could play with but when I went to Ogrimmar my computer froze up and died. I guess I can't play WOW, which may be a good thing.

Illidan can't be killed.....he's probably just going to run away or something in the instance, lol.

Anyway, WoW is only addicting if you let it be. It's sooo fun if you don't.

One tip I can give is don't roll a Warlock or hunter as your first character. They are both more "complicated" classes than the others. Not that they are unbearable, I just wouldn't suggest them as first classes unless you have friends to help tell you what to do.

Also, I probably wouldn't join a PVP server as your first server. Being camped sucks ass and can really get you pissed. Or being ganked. Yeah...

Yeah . . . well then . . . you'd have . . . shit all over you. So - yeah.

Just 'cause you can kill them doesn't mean they're not badass. And I suck balls at PvP, so it doesn't really matter which class I play. I just have more fun with rogues. I can disappear whenever I want and stab people in the back. And long before the game came out, my friend and I had developed our own game which was all about punching each other in the kidneys. We called them kidney shots. Kidney shot=rogue ability. It was a sign. Plus, they're pretty nice for soloing, which is 99% of my playing time.

Lawl. Perhaps someone needs to l2playthierclass. Just because rage generation was normalized, doesn't make a warrior that much harder to play...especially in PvP. Oh, and I'm pretty sure I could kick your ass with my Rogue.

Don't really think its addicting to be honest. Only thing that pisses me off is that you have to pay to carry on playing it. I am also useing the 10 day trial don't think I'll pay for another month as It gets repetitive. Anyways I'm off to play WoW.....

I play WoW, only because a friend of mine that had it convinced me to play it with him. The game does get a bit addicting, but I can't spend hours on it at a time. Any human with the slightest bit of self-control should be able to play this without getting addicted to the point that you lose everything you love.

Go level up a warrior to 60, play a few hours of BG, and take a look at our lvl 70 gear in TBC and try to one on one classes. Warriors are shit compared to other classes. Druids and paladins can now tank, everybody else can still out dps us if they spec it.

On another note your a fucking retard, a warrior beats a rogue almost always, the one class that we can kill. Oh sir you dodged my attack, well I just pop overpower, crit on you, bleed you, demo shout, intimidating shout, beserker rage, then execute. GG!

If your beating warriors, then you either are fighting noob warriors, have better gear, or are able to stunlock them. I am a human warrior, a rogue killer, I just pop perception and charge you, GG...

Ahh, WoW. I haven't played seriously since about June. When patch 2.0 came out I played a lot for about a week and a half for two pieces of the Warlord's set but I don't have it in me to continue. I do wanna get to 70 when BC comes out for some reason, even though I seriously doubt I'll ever raid/PvP heavily again, and by then my gear will bite.

Here's what my gear was looking like. Low CTProfile number, hooray! (http://ctprofiles.net/3842) Not so impressive considering I only made it as far as C'Thun (meaning we killed the Twin Emps), so I have no worthwhile AQ gear. I quit before Naxx even launched.

I was very hesitant to play, I'm not much of a MMORPG player. Then when my brother got it he was an addict, spending all his free time on it, skipping school, screaming and throwing things whenever me or my mom tried talking to him...

I just started the 10 day trial. It's not bad, but it's not that great either.

WoW has already ruined my life...but you still have a chance!

(if you decide to play, dont beg people for food, water, money, items, enchants, or anything of the "begging" matter. people will hate you for life)

i'd say PvP is the only thing truely addicting about it...even though Ally LOSE EVERY FUCKING AB GOD FUCKING DAMNIT I CANT GET A FUCKING FIELD MARSHAL ROBE OR ANYTHING ELSE BECAUSE OF FUCKING AB CUZ EVERYTHING COSTS AB TOKENS FUCK YOU BLIZZARD GOD DAMNIT

...also i think the expansion is kinda ruining the game...cuz u get like tier 2 and stuff and with the expansion its like..woo...tier 2...by then tier 5 or 6 will be out and tier 2 or 1..or even 3 will be shit

Well I've been playing the trial and I really enjoy it. I can see how it could become pretty addicting, but luckily I've been able to control myself so far and I don't see it "ruining my life" as some people have put it. I'm trying out a Troll Rogue right now and it's pretty fun.

Oh fuck, when I played my 10-day trial, it sucked my life. It was really addictive. I had so much fun playing it. The quests were pretty straight forward though, it's pretty much like running errands. The features it had though were fun, like classes and stuff like that. I kept on telling myself to "sign off after i smelt this tin" but it turned into another hour. You really lose track of time while playing, but I didn't play much of my last few days of the trial, as it kinda got boring and repetitive. Just signed in to have a beer on the 4th of July.

yea, being a lvl 60 warrior myself i can safely say i beat 90% of the rogues i fight. I only have trouble when there is 2 of them and im stunned the whole time.

As for these 'warrior nurfs' imo the class is ok. I can still pwn in BG and at the end of a WSG/AB im usually top of the damage done. Have a duel with a mage/hunter/warlock and yeah, you dont stand a chance as a warrior but tbh, who gives a dam. PvP is about suprise, you jump a mage in the field and you can floor him before he has the chance to move :D

In order for MMORPGs to be addicting to the point of taking ones life over, the previous life must be worse.

Um...yeah? That is how good rogues win silly. Nooo...I just run around you in circles, popping evasion and letting you overpower me...lol.

Ever heard of a thing called the "dead zone"? Thats where I kite you after you prematurely pop berserker rage, out of range of your swings, and close enough so you don't intercept me, while I regain energy...then I stunlock you till I need to do it again.

I know it's hard to concieve a rogue taking down warriors with ease, since the new patch made them ridiculous strong vs rogues...but yeah, I know how warriors work, and more importantly, I know how to play my rogue.

Oh, and btw...lol @ perception...I won't be in stealth long enough for it to be useful to you. Unless we are talking battlegrounds...then I have better things to do than fight people.

Ha, this is my 3rd post today regarding WoW. I'm here to tell you a few things before you decide to carry on with it. If you have certain areas of your life, such as school, a job, gf, etc...you may want to reconsider playing. WoW is the one and only game that I have seen literally destroy lives. I started playing with my friends a little more than a year ago. Since then I gradually became more and more addicted to it, since many objectives of the game are time-related. Once you reach the later portions of the game it really comes down to a few things, such as gear, rank (if you pvp) etc. All these aspects require more and more time.

I grew up playing video games. I've always been a fan of gaming as entertainment. WoW on the other hand becomes a lifestyle. You eat, sleep, and dream WoW. It can so easily consume your mind. I NEVER expected to get as addicted as I was. I am currently attending college, interning locally. I played as I started my schooling, work, etc...and I ended up fucking up my load. I am now a semester behind because I dropped classes just to have more time to play. Not only did I drop classes, I stopped ALL communication with my outside friends, my girlfriend, everything. It has the potential to take an average guy looking for some clean/cheap entertainment...and warp thier view on reality to social-crushing extents.

This is only a warning to you. I am not promising that all who start playing will become addicted to the extent that I was...I would just like to offer my views on a topic I am fairly familiar with. I have seen it do some wicked shit to my friends, and I as well. I'll never forget the impact it had on me. It sucked an entire year, no exaggeration, from me...more than 70% of my thoughts pertained to WoW I'm sure during a period of this year. It's the greatest game I ever endured. It puts you in a world, and after awhile, if you aren't carefull...you start living in this world...and slowly yet surely, it takes everything out of you...and consumes you entirely.

Please, be carefull.

I think people say "pop" when it's an ability that can only be used every x minutes. Derived from popping a pill, maybe?

NiNJaCYaNiDe

Why is it called 'pop' and not 'use'?....Serious question.

I don't know exactly to be honest. Perhaps it is because some skills are on a cooldown...and opposed to being a skill you can "use" regularly...it is something you "pop" or "blow" to give you a decided advantage against someone for a short period of time, and then you won't be able to pop it again for a short while.

Technically, they stand for the same thing...but I dunno...you hear people talking WoW bullshit in vent or whatever, and you just start saying it too.
