I know there's a couple of Porcupine Tree fans here. I found some interesting news regarding the new album ...
More news is filtering through about the as yet un-named new Porcupine Tree album.
Dutch International Rock and Metalmagazine AARDSCHOK(issue january 2007)has an interview with Steve Wilson about Porcupine Tree and Blackfield's new album releases.
Apparently the new PT album will contain 6 songs and be 55 minutes long. The already legendary track nicknamed by Steve as "The Beast" will come in at almost 20 minutes long and apparently the album will be an epic of unprecedented (for PT) structure and cohesion - dealing with the 'Blank Generation' that grew up with MTV, CD's, reality shows etc etc. Word has it that the album could be inspired by one of Brett Easton Ellis' novels.

I'm not a huge fan of Porcupine Tree but I think The Sound of Musak is a cool song. Just thought I'd keep this thread alive for other Porcupine Tree fans to see.

Best modern prog band around, and one of my fav rock bands ever.
This is great news. It sounds like this will be quite a progression from In Absentia and Deadwing.

I love it when prog bands make amazing songs about how mindless my generation is. pluss PT is one of my favorites anyway. I CAN'T WAIT!

I hope they keep the trend going with hi - res surround sound DVD releases. I'm sure they will.

I will make sure to check out as soon as I can. I've loved them ever since I downloaded the Voyage 34 album someone suggested.

PT has a few phases of music. Voyage 34 is a more psychedelic brand of PT. You might want to give In Absentia a listen, to hear another side of PT (and because it's an awesome album).

Wow, that sounds awesome. Does anyone know which Ellis novel they were talking about?
Sounds awesome but the lengthy tracks kinda scare me. I don't mind a long song here and there, but 6 tracks and 55 minutes? With a 20 minute song in there, this might be a wierd balance between really long songs and too-short songs.
Either way I'm sure it's gonna be good, PT is fuckin great.
Any word on a release date yet?

Bwahaha! Steve Wilson doing a commentary on the Blank Generation!!! That theme will work perfectly with his completely sterile lifeless voice.
/sorry
Their music is great and I love some of their songs, but his voice sounds completely opaque.

Roadrunner Records and Atlantic USA have officially announced the release of the new Porcupine Tree album "Fear of a Blank Planet" in mid April. The album features six (mostly lengthy) tracks, and is the band’s most ambitious and cohesive work to date. Much of it was debuted last year on tour to a rapturous response from fans.
The lyrical content of the song-cycle on the album is a 21st century cocktail of MTV, sex, prescription drugs, video games, the internet, terminal boredom, and subsequent escape.
More news and previews of the album to follow on this site.
maybe Steven Wilson is a Public Enemy fan? Regardless, I am definitely excited to hear this. Robert Fripp of King Crimson and Alex Lifeson of Rush play on it.

I'm interested to hear what kind of part they will play in the upcoming album.
Along with marillion's new album, I would say 2007 is going to be a great year for music.

1-30-07 - Pain of Salvation - SCARSICK
2-6-07 - Kiss Kiss - REALITY VS. THE OPTIMIST (LOVE..this disc already, went on sale on Itunes Dec 26th actually)
2-22-07 - String Quartet Tribute to DREAM THEATER
3-6-07 ***HUGE DAY FOR NEW STUFF***
Kaddisfly - SET SAIL THE PRAIRIE
Blackfield - BLACKFIELD II (US) (check the new video trailer on myspace! http://tinyurl.com/yjuu8s )
House of Fools - HOUSE OF FOOLS (full-length)
March:
Ours - DANCING FOR THE DEATH OF AN IMAGINARY ENEMY
Superior - NEW WORLD ORDER
4-9-07
Marillion - SOMEWHERE ELSE
4-24-07 - Porcupine Tree - FEAR OF A BLANK PLANET (US)
and that's the only confirmed stuff right now. Dream Theater, Rush, Coheed And Cambria all should be out this spring. dredg, Opeth, Oceansize, Margot and the nuclear so and so's, Revere, Kaura, Janus, Demians..and a ton of others..
^String Quartet Dream Theater? Sounds fuckin cool. I heard a String Quartet tribute to the Chili Peppers once and that was pretty cool.
