Hey, I was looking at CD's at an online store, and saw a SACD version of the album being sold aswell. Now, what I am wondering is if it can be played on my pc/regular cd player, or will I need a special cd player? If it's any help, my hifi is about 2 years old, and my laptop is pretty new.
Thanks.

Super Audio CD (SACD) has been around sence 1999, I'm sure you've already had one and didn't even know it. There should be no issues.

No he is incorrect. SACD can only be played on players that support SACD. The receiver must support Hi Resoulution inputs as well. Many SACD's have dual layers that have a conventional redbook layer that can be played on any standard cd player, however, there would be no audible benefit from buying an SACD if this is how you would want to play it. I own a universal player that plays SACD's and DVD Audio. I have to hook up six discrete cables from the player to the reciever. Most SACD's have multichannel surround which is amazing to hear if you have a 5.1 setup. Go to the suuround sound forum here if you need more information http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/index.php
