"and makes you one of the oldest members here."
Thanks for that Wrathchild, my ego has not landed !!, not doing too bad for 42, still have my own hair and teeth you know, and not kept under the bed in a box i might add !!! I miss the mighty Glasgow apollo greatly, spent most of my youth there and saw my faves, ac/dc in uk money in 79 was £3.50 @ $1.50 per pound in usa, now they are £32.00 upwards the last time i saw them !!. Rose Tattoo was a £1.00 in 1981 !!, i have all my tickets apart from Triumph i swapped with a guy in usa and rush edinburgh 1981 which i lost !!, still treasure them and intend framing.

Yeah there wasn't much response for the new stuff, which is a shame because I really liked the new stuff. It made Fear of the Dark the best song of the night for me. Until then it was Lord of Light. It was still a great night!

how was donnington in 1988?
The busiest fest i have ever been to, sadly the death of 2 ? people during g n r`s set, the paradise city video b&w footage is from there, i was in front of the sound tower and was chaos. i saw one girl up on a guys shoulders all of a sudden get a metal bullet belt wrapped around her face thrown by some idiot in front from a distance, shredded her face too. i got out further back as the crowd surge was horrendeous. Roth was roth..."look at all the people here tonight" and the rest. i prefered donington 1987, although 1980 was thee best line up in my books. Remember buying loads of t-shirts of the bands i liked that day, Kiss started with Deuce, the first time they started playing some of the older stuff, i remember that. Helloween & Megadeth...naaaa did not bother with them much. Maiden i watched, remember the stage had a kind of ice glacier type stage show and big !!!, happy days !!

Saw Priest last year with Scorpions on tow and was bored to death !!!, The Scorps have all the 80`s foot on monitor cliche`s and audience pointing etc but Priest, Halford used to be a busy guy on stage getting right in there, now he wears concrete shoes and plods along singing and boring the stage, the rest of the band still do the same twin guitar stuff which is great. i have seen priest through the years and probably British Steel tour was better, more stage presence from the band, saw them with ripper and thought he was a great vocalist, Metal Gods was great live.

ooohhhhhhh
I would say Triumph in 1980 for playing to over a half empty theatre, stalls almost full, circle first few rows, balcony empty and they played and did a full stage show, i always remember that gig fondly.
best festival- Castle Donington 1980 when i was 16.
Riot with Guy Speranza who always played with someone, great band

It was alright I was expecting it to be better. Trivium basically fucked the whole thing up acting like complete pricks. I love heavy music but it doesn't mean that the group has to act like arseholes. Lauren Harris was very, very good and the two guitarists were exceptional.
I was a bit dissapointed that they did the entire new album. I reckon about 4/5 maybe 6 songs of AMOLAD would have sufficed.
The old songs they did were:
Fear of the Dark
Iron Maiden
The Evil that Men Do (a personal favourite of mine)
2 Minutes to Midnight.
Hallowed be thy Name
So in total it was 15 songs. At the time I really enjoyed it but looking back Trivium as well as all of the little faggots that follow them really pissed me and a large percentage of the other Maiden fans near the front off.
A funny thing I noticed was that I don't think I've ever seen so many piercings/tatoo's on so many fucking ugly people in my life. I'm not saying that I'm a stunner but bugger me with a crowbar, there were some fucked up people there. I don't know what these people do during the day 'cause I've never seen anything like it.
Reading this it sounds to me like their was nothing positive. Maiden were great and gave it their all but due to other instances the concert didn't rate as highly as I hoped it would've. For those that haven't seen Maiden I highly recommend you do go as it's a good night out but check who the support acts are first.

I know what you mean in the freaks at metal gigs now, i used to go carrying nothing and loop shirts etc through the belt loops in my jeans, programmes kept safe etc, i was at slayer/Nashville pussy a few years back and was hilarious to see all these little blackeyed, black fingernailed rock nugget circus freaks wearing backpacks and carrying bags standing near the back in case they got hurt, don`t get me wrong i hate mosh pits but just stay out around the edge, too old for that !!! but i like to get near as possible to the front, i was at the very front for nashville pussy, opening music was running with the devil, classic van halen and a guy next to me asked what that was !!!, then spent the whole gig just in awe at the size of the hams on the original bass player, can`t remember her name, tall tart left years ago due to drugs, she wore this tiny waistcoat and these huuuuge hams were bounding around like 2 dogs inside a quilt cover, fantastic.Slayer bored me to death, some good music but the stage prescence of a plank. I suppose i was lucky as my older brother was a good gig goer in my early days and i got to the gigs he went to at the sadly missed Apollo in Glasgow. I remember standing at the back of the apollo listening to priest in 81 ? soundchecking most of the killing machine album, waiting for ages on Blackfoot to come out and sign autographs only for them all to walk out the pub across the road, arrogant Scorpions ignoring us moaning they had to do a soundcheck.

Have not been the the Edinburgh Palyhouse in years, think the last was Alice cooper/Dio/Orange Goblin gig, was at the front for Skidrow/Motley crue though which was great till nikki sixx stood on my fingers mid set !!!, you don`t get many gigs at the playhouse now, more theatre productions.

I don't like huge crowds so I've missed a lot of good shows, I'm sure, but I've seen, in chronological order, starting at age 2:
Willie Nelson (1)
Little Feat (1)
Van Halen (3)
Def Lepard (1)
Skid Row (1)
Guns N' Roses (1)
Pink Floyd (1)
Lenny Kravitz (2)
Everlast (3)
Dave Mathews (1)
Metallica (1)
Presidents of the United States of America (1)
30 Seconds To Mars (1 - my band opened for them)
Monte Montgomery (2)
I've seen TONS of smaller bands in various clubs either as a fan or as a opening/headlining act. I prefer smaller bands in smaller clubs. Some that you *might* know:
Gals Panic
Dexter Freebish
Frou Frou
