The second coming of Christ shouldn't put fear into Christians. I for one will welcome the return. Finally an end to evil once and for all and that would include fear.

IMO, the scary part is the number of people who Want Armageddon to happen. The whole "Rapture" thing (which is reviled by non-evangelical Christians as being made up) promises the return of Jesus, once the Jews take over the holy land.

Many of these people are holding high offices in our government (GW included) That does scare me. The man whose finger is on the button has a fundamental belief that a global holocaust/war is a good thing.

You wanna see something completely hilarious?

Open these links (beginning with yours) in separate tabs and compare them to one another:

Poll: Attacks Imminent (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070101/ap_on_re_us/2007_predictions_ap_poll_6)

Poll: Doom & Gloom (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061231/ap_on_re_us/2007_predictions_ap_poll?feck)

Poll: We're Optimistic (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061231/ap_on_re_us/optimism_ap_poll)

I wonder if the AP just thought nobody would notice, kinda like Reuter's photoshopped pictures and Dan Rather's documents from 1973 that were created on Microsoft Word.

I wonder if the AP just thought nobody would notice, OK, I concede: notice what? That there are different headlines for different takes on the latest poll reports? That the obvious effectiveness of government propaganda can be overlooked in several different kinds of headline? What?

They used the same photo for three different articles.

They used the same photo for three different articles. They used the same poll data for all three articles, too - so?

I've done it three times in one night before. It's not that unusual.

How is this sad? It isn't destructive to society that people believe in Christ. You might not agree with it, but that doesn't make it sad. I think what is sad is that you're mocking people's religious views. It's essentially racism in another form.

The man whose finger is on the button has a fundamental belief that a global holocaust/war is a good thing. If it makes you feel better, Bush is probably about as religious as I am. He conveniently chooses what parts of Christianity to mention based on how he wants to use it to sway the population.

As for the all the people that still believe in the rapture, all I'm going to say is that I'm glad their numbers are slowly fading.

I'm still not sure. I go back and forth between seeing him as just using the faith for his ends, and being a true believer.

Aside from Atheists, Evangelicals are the fasting growing "religious" identity.

It's not that they believe in Christ, it's that 25% of Americans think he is coming this year, bringing with him the end times. That is the sad part.

Also not agreeing or mocking someone else's belief system is hardly a form of racism.

There is the possibility that he fools even himself a little bit by deciding things, and then backing them up religiously afterwards.

I know about the resurgence going on. I even remember the thread you posted with that data. I was thinking on a longer timeline, and how in the past fundamentalist Christianity was almost default. I see it as a sign of desperation from a group of people who see their numbers falling every day. The decline seems to have gone in similar cycles the whole time, with a portion of the believers becoming less radical, and some from there abandoning it almost altogether and the others going back a more traditional way.
