TV as PC monitor - how to stop flickering?

The icons on the desktop, or any text flickers on-screen which is very irritating. The images of video files are not affected and look fine, it is just the text and I have been playing some DOS games which also have this same problem. I have tried various resolution and colour depth configurations, but I haven't managed to fix this. Can anyone help?

what model/year is your tv?
what video card do you have?
what cables are you using to connect the 2?

Video card: GeForce MX 4000
Cable - S Video to Scart

have you got the latest video drivers for your card? i cant see it been the cable or the tv.

update and have a poke around in the nVidia settings.
