Japanese vs. Western RPGs

Which do u like better, i like all rpgs, for those of you who don't know the difference, an ex. of a western rpg would be oblivion, a japanese rpg would be final fantasy.

everday a new japanese RPG is out and they SUCK, they all look the same, play the same and it's just redundant and pathetic, the only good japanese RPG's are the ones that do well in the western market and i'm not xenophobic, they just make too many shitty RPG's.

at least western ones don't come out by the truckload every week.

Fallout 1 & 2, The Elder Scrolls, Baldurs Gate 1 & 2, Knights of the old republic, Neverwinter nights etc. I find them so much better than any japanese rpg, allthough I did enjoy Final Fantasy Tactics.

Anyways,

I find western RPG's stick to the same old Medieval theme and its really annoying. Example: if you look at Baldur's gate and then take Eldar Scrolls, they use the same Tolkien type ogres and knights magic with wizardry blah blah.

Not all western RPGs follow that path, Example: Knights of the Old Replublic, Fallout series.

Final Fantasy is always different if you guys really look at it, the time frame, the use of technology in the world and story line. One common theme in Final Fantasy is Norse Mythology with use of motifs like swords and summon for example: Summons: Odin and Ifirit, Weapons: Ragnarok.

There are a lot of Japanese RPG that are copy cat and stick to the robot type world and it is annoying but that doesn't reflect such games like Front Mission, Wild Arms, Valkyrie Profile, FF: Tactics. I believe the most memorable story lines are by Japaense RPG's. I've never been wowed by a western one. But I do enjoy playing the Eldar Scroll series and KOTR.

Japanese stuff is too weird. I don't like the anime flavor.

i like both, but people w/ guns would in almost any situation own people running around w/ swords. i know that they have been edging away from this but its still pretty prominent.

I think the Kingdom Hearts games are amongst the best games ever made and I'm not even that big a fan of RPG's so I'll go for Japanese

I've never really liked FF, there's no ineractivity, all you do is tell your charicter to attack and see a cutscene, watch a cutscene of you enemy attack, tell your charicter to cast a spell, ect.


Almost all Japinese RPGs are just that, interactive cutscenes.
That's why I went with western.
