Major studios still like Blu-Ray though...
Mainstream movies: BR
Porn movies: HD-DVD
In 5 years, don't let your grandma see that you have a HD-DVD player is all...

Insert Betamax and VHS into that argument and you will see the future. POSSIBLY

Once again, since you missed it in the other bluray-hd dvd thread, porn is not the deciding factor in this generation...no one buys porn dvds anymore, porn is primarity online. It was a huge factor during vhs because the internet was just beginning to grow then, but now everyone gets their pron for free online...
Agaon, here is what Wikipedia had to say about it...Here is what Wikipedia had to say about it:
In the week of December 24th, 2006, Blu-Ray sales surpassed HD-DVD sales by 20%. By the end of the first quarter of 2007, Blu-Ray is expected to outsell HD-DVD by a 3.5:1 ratio. Blu-Ray has a 96% market share in Japan.

People don't buy porn movies? Tell that to the seedy video stores downtown. You know which ones. As for free, why is internet porn such a huge industry? I know you're looking for any reason to argue against anything anti-Sony. But sometimes you gotta just sit back and let it go.

Yeah but do facts really have a place in this debate? Isn't it really all about whose e-wiener is the biggest? In all honesty who cares at this point. I know like, ZERO people who have either format player and of all the people I know, they are still buying DVDs. Or renting them and burning copies.

Again not that I care who wins the format war, but Wiki as a source is not a good idea. I just finished my bachelors degree and professors are now refusing to allow Wiki as a source for research papers. Granted SOME information on Wiki is true but it's track record isn't the best.

Question, how does one format "win" this time around?
Sony puts out movies, Sony WOULD NEVER put THEIR movies out on HD-DVD, only Blu-ray.
The only practical choice is to go Blu-ray or have a multi-format player(best option).
I just can't see myself buying Blu-ray but then not being able to watch that awesome movie again and again that I saw in theatres because it's on HD-DVD and vice versa.

^^^funny, but alterations are monitered, and I have never had a problem with wiki as a source, it's usually very concise and descriptive with many other sources cited.

The point I'm making is that my professors wouldn't take it as a source for that reason. That is all. It has nothing to do with whether or not either format is winning. He tried to say that my mentioning that was "desperate." I'm guessing he thought I was implying something which I was not. All I was doing was echoing another's response about wiki not being the best source for unbiased information. As I have previously stated I could care less which format "wins," I'm not invested in either so it doesn't affect me.

EDIT: valid point though, the reason porn was a huge advantage for VHS was that it was the first time you could have porn in a "home" environment or whatever.

The bottom line for them is profit. If not enough people have a BluRay player they won't be able to make much money of BluRay sales. If they can make more money selling their films on HDDVD, they will.

Why can't the big companies make a multi-format diskdrive?
It's 2007. If I'm going to pay $ 1000+ for a cd/dvd/hd/br player, I expect it to read all the popular formats. Don't tell me this is technically impossible.

Only problem is Hybrid Discs/Players will defianatly cost almost double the price of standalone HD-DVD + BR Player/Discs. Only the Tech Freaks will most likely fall into it, but casuals will always go for the cheaper option, just look at Wii/DS Sales.

You wanna know why Blu-ray will win out....more movie company support and one other simple fact...........who owns blu ray? Every PS3 owner...and those few who buy the players...who owns HD-DVD....like 1% of Xbox360 owners who pay 200 for an add on that makes the system the same price as a ps3 and the few others who buy the players ;).

At the moment Hd-DVD is beating BluRay on a 5:1 ratio. Even though BluRay is in the PS3 it's still trailing to the Hd-DVD standalone players and they're still getting crappy software rates.
Not to mention that Hd-DVD has now got the Porn Industry behind it. Can you say "win by default"?
EDIT: And movie studios don't make a format win, sales do. Hd-DVD is selling more so...Yeah.

The film industry doesn't mean anything but the pornography industry does? I'm not saying that either will do better than the other, but at least try to hide your blatant refusal to accept that some people will buy Blu-Ray players to watch Disney movies and whatever other Blu-Ray studios there are.

1. DVD Discs don't have the Capacity to hold a full length HD Movie.
2. Microsoft are the biggest Software Company on the planet. Microsoft backing HD-DVD means alot more than Apple backing anything without the letter 'i' in front of it.
